I looked at the twenty-nine mentions of LOLITA in the Epstein emails released this week, and what they say about America today.

We should abolish the inheritance of money and land. When you die, your assets return to the people. Your kids can have the quilt you made by hand and your favorite painting, but the people get the rest.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

I attended a meeting yesterday and it reminded me that every single organizer needs to get training on how to facilitate meetings. Truly. You lose more people through terrible meeting facilitation than I can express.

I've told everyone I know in my local up-and-coming-writer scene not to submit to these magazines anymore. Hopefully it saves a few of us from getting screwed by these private equity assholes
This is at least the fourth story I've seen of an author having to exchange multiple emails (over 20) with this publisher to get the contract language to not be rights grabby and it's one of three where the writer walked away.

I appreciate the effort and transparency but I will also say-
On August 12, 1971, 16-year-old me mailed the first story I ever wrote off on its first submission to my dream market, F&SF. My tale was quickly rejected. On July 17th, 2025, I finally sold a story to that magazine. Here's why I felt I had to withdraw that story. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

I'm sorry, do I spot "schumer, ranieri" as in our beloved Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer there in a list of Dudes Epstein Remembers Hanging Out With RIGHT NEXT TO SEX CULT LEADER KEITH RANIERE?

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

lots of candidates for an answer to this question, but here's one that's more obscure: ARMOR, by John Steakley

it both inspired me to join the military at 17, and helped me cope with the betrayal I felt actually being in the military
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Recently finished @strawburriez.bsky.social 's WE WERE ONCE A FAMILY, and I'm still thinking about a few weeks later. I feel like we're in a cultural moment where we're struggling to know how to protect kids. Not just how but whether, how much, which kids, against whom...

...Now, though, I'm wondering whether or not that con's "Diane Duane" was the fake one who was running around for some years pretending to be me (until the fans caught her and she went to jail for multiple frauds). (Details here: www.dianeduane.com/past-news-it...)

At long last, I've finally set up a ko-fi (AKA, an online store)!!!

You can use it to:
* help me continue providing pro bono translations!
* colaborar conmigo en una traducción!
* hire me as a developmental editor!
* buy my digital zines and handouts!

This articulates something I've been thinking about! There's an initiative in my state that people are gathering signatures for that would ban trans girls from little league/school sports, and if we can just manage to tie that to Trump I think we win for a generation
I genuinely think this is true, and not only that, we have a fantastic opportunity to Uno-reverse transphobia as a wedge issue

Trump's obsessed with us, or at least his diseased brain is fixated on "transgender for everyone", AND he's historically unpopular. USE THAT
I don't know if it's just me, but I've gotten the sense recently that transphobia a political tool is already played out. Not only is it not a winner, but it really feels like the right overplayed their hand with anti-trans hate and people generally seem sick of it, sick of bulling running on hate.

I bought a cake to celebrate the death of Dick Cheney (pineapple upside-down cake bc I’m not a huge fan of frosting; you’ll have to imagine the decorations saying ‘rot in hell, war criminal’) and when I went to post this pic I saw all the election news rolling in so now I’m really celebrating 🎉 🎉 🎉

So many people were detained extrajudicially, were tortured, or died because of Dick Cheney. You can't get to the danger we're in now without everything he did. The weapons he helped forge are ones we need to take away from U.S. presidents forever.

I see the NYT has a retrospective on Dick Cheney's life in photos and the fact that it isn't just all the photos of torture at Abu Ghraib is another good reason to ignore the NYT forever

Maybe I'll just put it up on my own website...

this is one of my biggest gripes with activist spaces these days tbh
The way Westerners discuss conservatism and oppressed people in non-Western cultures is so utterly, irreparably broken.

I did not say "white", by the way. I'd have said "white" if I meant "white".
