I mean to be fair, these are not independent events. We are having these debates *because* variations of this thing keep happening everywhere.

Like I’ve seen commented elsewhere (I forget exactly where), it’s not clear if the open contribution model as we know it can survive this.

Part 3 of my "Trusted by design" blog series is live at neuroinformatics.dev/blog/trusted...

Open-source software is public, yet much of the communication around it may happen in private channels. What if communication were radically open—visible to anyone who cares to look?

New preprint alert!

We developed an automated framework to optimize tracking pipelines for bacteria, along with a nice integration of tools for bacteria imaging, in the recently released TrackMate 8 (Fiji plugin).

Never wrote for a specific journal, never used a template. We just write the best manuscript with what we have, then preprint, then see where it could fit best and submit as is, adapting the format at later stages if journal and reviewers are interested (revision stage). Why should we do it sooner?

More fun with accessibility: how to add alt-text for a matplotlib figure in a Jupyter notebook when it is converted to HTML.

Lots of github issues about this when you google, but no firm standard. Wound up with a hackish postprocessing script that does the job:

The new engine in Python-Blosc2 4.0 delivers quite awesome performance results. Processing a 400 MB array can be up to 9.6x faster than NumPy 🤯

The best part is that it fully supports NumPy's array and ufunc interfaces. High performance with zero friction! 🏎️💨
