Been revisiting and rethinking about E.M. Forster's "The Machine Stops" a lot recently. I was blown away when I first read it, mostly because it's not what I expected from a Forster short story. But also by how wildly prescient it feels today.

I just got the most terrifying email.

I finished one place out of promotion in Learned League last season, but I guess they needed the numbers because I got promoted to A Rundle.

Pray for Mojo.

This is an unpopular opinion that is really accurate. It's a cart and horse thing. You need accessibility via better pay (the horse) to encourage more diversity in representation (the cart). Part of why people hate this idea so much is because the current yahoos really don't deserve the money.
state legislators should be paid more. otherwise the legislatures are full of dilettantes, cranks, and nepobabies. this is why you keep hearing about the craziest fucking state laws
people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up

Bought a used copy online of the Harry Houdini biography I read as a kid that I always loved, and the exact thing I hoped for is happening: my daughter is devouring it.

So, anyone who pre-ordered the Replacements' LET IT BE boxset hear anything about shipping yet? I feel like Rhino regularly ships these out late.

Tonight's show was full of 30 year anniversaries, but I think the anniversary that got me most was that it's been 20 years since Silver Jews' TANGLEWOOD NUMBERS came out.

They hate actually governing.
The Republican leaders of North Carolina's state legislature called everyone back to Raleigh to find a way to rig another US House seat for Donald Trump, but not to pass a state budget, or fund our state's Medicaid system.

Do you get it now? 🤡

Noches Latinas in Greensboro are one of the best First Friday events, and if you haven't been to one, you should. It's amazing how they've grown over the year or two they've been happening.

This, but also, stop giving the College Board public school money. They make money hand over fist from school systems that pay for every student to the PSAT and AP exams.
it is just a straightforward statement of fact to say that the trump administration sees any black student at an elite institution as one too many

One of the best pieces by Kaleb Horton ever is no longer easily available, because of course MTV wouldn't maintain actual good music writing done for its site once. Thankfully I found it again via some digging: his 2016 memorial to Merle Haggard on his passing. Link here, screencaps to follow.

So, uh, go Cats! Not shocked they got a win against Atlanta, but did not expect it to go down like that. That's the Panthers defense I've been missing for so many seasons.

Also, they've scored 49 unanswered points going back to the Arizona game. Wild.
