AP reporter Regina Garcia Cano looked into a few of the men killed in Trump's extrajudicial strikes on Caribbean boats.

"They were laborers, a fisherman, a taxi driver. Two were low-level career criminals. One was a local crime boss who contracted out smuggling services"

Trump has accused boat crews of being narco-terrorists. The truth, AP found, is more nuanced
One was a fisherman struggling to eke out a living on $100 a month. Another was a career criminal. A third was a former military cadet.

Attendance this year has (so far) been at a new high, even for the early weeks of term which are always pretty good.
'It is no secret that student attendance has plummeted in recent years, with near-empty lecture halls a staple of the post-pandemic world.'

Really? I lecture to all our 1st years. Lecture hall is full, not near-empty. Student engagement picked up last year and (early days) seems stronger again. 1/2

A great teaching week. Discussed American, French, and Haitian revolutions with first-year undergrads on Monday and the Qing Empire with advanced undergrads yesterday. The students were engaged and genuinely interested in the topics. Which is a relief, since everything else is just the worst.
