Hello new followers. I'm Josh Reynolds, the author. Not the football player, the artist, the other football player, or the Liberal Democrat MP. I write a bunch of stuff. Check out my site for some of it. Or don't. I'm not your momma. joshuamreynolds.co.uk

I just submitted a story wherein Artemis Whitlock teams up with a very elderly Lady Wardrop ("Mr Humphreys and His Inheritance") to solve a maze and I'm positively giddy to see if the editors realise I snuck a reference to Eleanor Scott's "Randalls Round" in there...

If I had to put together a Top 5 list of werewolf films, this one would be right up there. The strength of the film is in its characters. The squaddies, led by the redoubtable Sean Pertwee and Kevin McKidd, are a strong cast of personalities, with each one being distinct – though some, like Darren Morfitt’s Spoon, are more distinct than others. The werewolves are towering, bestial shapes, reminiscent of the creatures immortalized in Joe Dante’s 1981 film, The Howling. The plot is simple, but with some nice twists and turns that keep it moving at a rollicking pace.

Spending the day completely rewriting the story I finished yesterday because something wasn't right about it. All wrong angles. Much happier with its current shape, even though it'll take me another two days to finish up.

The White Reindeer (1952)
A hunter spots his quarry on the snowy, Finnish landscape. The white reindeer stands still, watching as he raises his rifle – takes aim – fires. The rifle explodes; the hunter screams. Through bloodied eyes, he sees that it is no reindeer at all, but rather a beautiful woman who laughs wildly at his misfortune and sends him fleeing across the snow. So goes the pivotal scene of the 1952 Finnish folk horror film, Valkoinen peura or The White Reindeer. The feature film debut of director Erik Blomberg, it was also his only horror film – and one of the first Finnish genre movies.
