This also came up in very similar language in the now-famous “this job sucks, please find me in contempt so I can sleep” hearing. The judge was kind of like, “When you say it’s a lot of work to follow due process, you realize I kind of don’t care, yes?”

But said it nicer.
“The Constitution does not permit the government to arrest thousands of individuals and then disregard their constitutional rights because it would be too challenging to honor those rights.”
BREAKING: Judge Nancy Brasel, a Trump appointee, has issued a TRO in the Minnesota access-to-counsel case about treatment at Whipple.

"It appears that in planning for Operation Metro Surge, the government failed to plan for the constitutional rights of its civil detainees."

Cannot believe that I got to profile an extraordinary filmmaker, who happens to be the mother of NYC’s new mayor, and think about intersections of art and politics, and how familial love might produce a buffer against the corrosive politics and cynicism of our time. My story about Mira Nair:

What I‘d have said last night if I hadn‘t been so tired is that I think women and femmes (and maybe people who care about us) who aren’t even following this are taking more damage than we realize from pervasive contact with this stuff, which is real Lynchian void shit.
I am working on entirely other things but I do have to be online to do it and the sheer volume of coverage of all these powerful men reiterating in a million ways that women and girls are meaningless toys is getting to even me.

I *love* finding mass media paperback issues of midcentury girl lit -- cover art changes and blurbs/excerpts on covers are so telling

Genius. I'm going to use this for every class next semester.
I used “Who is your favorite Muppet?” as an ice-breaker in two meetings today. And everyone always nods approvingly at every answer. 10/10 question

Many things these days make me think of SPEED, when they’re about to make the ridiculous sharp turn, and Keanu tells everybody to get over to one side to help them not tip over. It’s just everybody together, applying what force they can to change the physics of the situation.

We don't necessarily need to do more for students to learn. Seizing AI as a way to do more in the absence of human capacity is not necessarily a benefit to instructors or students. My advice: find the essence. Hopefully you can do it without being forced into it like I was.
