As I put the final touches on the typeset manuscript for HeartLand, I feel ecstatic and terrified. Will this book get hugged? Will kids care? I hope so. I hope it makes them laugh. I hope it makes them think. But right now, I'm going to focus on the joy I feel in sharing its cover with you! #kidlit

I used to think “well it’s bound to take your life/there’s a bathroom on the right” was just a warning that the bathroom was gas-station-nasty. Sorry Creedence…
i used to think the lyric was ‘i wanna rock and roll all night / and part of every day’ and i remember thinking, honestly that sounds reasonable

You are justified in needing a place to vent.

Sounds like nerve pain, which isn't fun. I hope you get it figured out! And please don't second guess having it checked out. Trust what your body is telling you.

My middle grade novel in prose-verse, HeartLand, grew to 109,000 words. It's now 72,000. But the ghosts of those words are there, haunting what remains. I just received the ARCs, and yes, I can definitely feel those missing words hovering at the edges. Cover reveal coming soon! #kidlit #MG #poetry

📚👍 Read in 7 hours straight, spellbound, a tribute to pacing and clear writing. I now get how easily disenfranchised people or those at a loss in other ways can be devoured by a cult. Even cults originally based on altruistic principles can deteriorate into cults of control. An outstanding book.

Yes, you can collapse time. Yes, structure is different from organization. And yes, a book can take 16 years....Great interview/conversation!

This would have helped my mom so much. She lost her ability read books, to do crossword puzzles, to make recipes, to read music, to see facial details of her family….this is why #science funding is so vital. Quality of life matters. #STEM
