Who, me?

Don't mind me, this page is where I word-vomit any and all errant thoughts that cross my brain in clipped, jocular fashion. It's like journaling but by way of making quips for the sake of brevity

All opinions on my page are your own. You're responsible. Why would you do this? You've doomed us all
As a person who often buys and consumes products, I think the worst thing a business can do is make me think they think I'm stupid

I spent a lot of my life ignorant about what ska as a music genre even was and I've come to realize it's just the platonic ideal of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater music

I don't think drama content is inherently bad or unworthy of attention. There's nuance to this obviously but in general I believe being interested in the real lives and stories of people is good and healthy

I think it's Kojima who saw playtesters enjoying Death Stranding a bit too much and went "Okay well if so many people like it it must actually be safe and boring as hell". I think about that a lot when I start feeling my taste is a bit too out there
I think this might be one of the wisest things uttered on the internet in the past decade. Applies to just about everything, including (especially?) games.

Cultivate your own tastes. Filter out bad vibes and groupthink. Like what you like and don't be afraid to say it.

There's two ways you can approach claiming to be a vampire hunter. Number one is nobody can be a vampire hunter, because it's impossible to hunt vampires as of yet. Number two is everyone can be a vampire hunter, since there's no objective standards by which vampire hunters are defined

An alarming amount of times these days I catch myself mentally quoting Tim Rogers verbatim from that time he said "If this clown is gonna get a detail like this completely wrong just so he gives off the appearance of proving a point, what's the point of getting the details right"

Never understood the 2nd Amendment as someone who's not American, but I watched some right-wing talking heads and now I kinda get it. You need guns to fight government overreach. Unless you break the law while doing it, that is. Then the government is allowed to shoot you with impunity

Real dumb and stupid how these awful age verification systems keep spreading but given recent events I do wonder if it's just one of those things that just has no easy solution

I think we as a culture have been dastardly unfair to all the artists who have made heavy-handed critiques of smartphones and social media in the past. They have been proven undeniably correct in all matters. We can't even say no one warned us

Van der Graaf Generator's Plague of Lighthouse Keepers is actually about a bunch of 'em, not just one. 'Plague' is what you call a collective of lighthouse keepers

Something to be said about how the idealization of making art "for yourself" likely contributes to the spread of AI art. There's little incentive to challenge yourself and improve if you see art in a selfish way. A lot of technical standards come from trying to connect with audiences

I've been studying writing as a hobby for a couple years now. The structural elements that Doc mentions here are probably the greatest limitation in terms of AI writing. A lot goes into making a story feel cohesive, things like foreshadowing and repetition, and AI is incapable of doing any of this
I hate AI almost as much as I hate ICE. I write about stuff on my reader-supported blog, and this one's been getting shared around again lately, so I figured, hey, I've got a really big $350 doctor's visit cost coming up.

using chatgpt and other ai writing tools makes you unhireable. here’s why
AI isn’t just pie in the sky, it’s a cow pie in the sky.

A useful thing to keep in mind is when people say they enjoy intelligent humor they don't usually mean jokes that are smart, but jokes that make them feel smart

I'm fiendish at writing dialogue. Even though I've learned a lot since, I often find myself going through some of the oldest scenes on my current project and being in awe at how much I got right without even thinking
Artists, I think we're all too comfortable sharing our imposter syndrome.

I would love to see you step out of your comfort zone and confidently state what you think you're actually really good at.

No self deprecation, just what you think you're the strongest at

Is anyone brave eniough? 👀
