I’m sure that parked cars and people shoveling snow back into the street were serious problems (I’ve seen it happen! Parked cars impacted my street!) but there’s no way anyone is going to read the DPWs answer as anything but passing the buck…?

… uhhh…. 🤔
The Trump administration wants to stop large cities that receive federal funds from providing free bus transit. The proposal applies to transportation agencies located in areas with populations over 200,000 and a fleet of more than 100 buses

DOT wants to prohibit free buses. That could be a problem for Mamdani in NYC.
A proposal from the Trump administration would restrict federal funding for cities that don't charge fares.

I don’t mind doing the dishes, but I hate putting them away when they’re dry (or maybe more specifically, putting them away and then immediately doing more dishes? Idk)

my increasingly curmudgeonly take is that we all, in fact, have responsibilities. politics isn't an arena for self-actualization. it's an arena for public service. this is as true of voters as it is of politicians.
Ps: a common refrain that you'll hear is that "you're saying the Dems can't be at fault, it's the voters, as if the voters owe something to politicians and not the other way around!"

Yes, actually, that's how the social contract of democracy works. Voters yet the government they work for. Or don't.

This is niche, but I hate posts about new books that describe them via tropes: “slow burn” “found family” — I don’t care. I’m not going to read a book based on some of the tropes they use

Why is Dem leadership not on the ground in MN? If the answer is “polls show Trump’s disapproval is only -15 on deportations, but -25 on prices,” thats a Bad Use Of Polling and a complete failure in their capacity as leaders to lead public opinion and fight for democracy and the rule of law

Republicans could end this it any time and I think every single Republican member of Congress should be asked daily why they continue to allow this. They are cowards who want to destroy our country and should have to carry that shame.
Reminder: All it would take to end the murder of American citizens by an untrained government goon squad is 16 Republicans in Congress voting with Dems to defund ICE (or 23 to impeach and remove Trump — 3 in House & 20 in Senate). That’s it. 23 Americans can vote for the public and end all of this.

"Parking meters cost $2.50 per hour and day rates range from $5 to $16."

Every single time moochers fill their diapers over a city not letting them store private property on public land for free, you should check to see how little they're actually being asked to pay.
San Diego’s new paid parking at Balboa Park has sparked widespread backlash as museum visits dropped and residents complained about the additional cost to access one of the cities most iconic spaces. bit.ly/49WVQC1

WTF happened to the Epstein files? Full release was required December 19 by federal law. Today, 99% are still undisclosed. Initially, there were rolling releases. Now, nothing in weeks.

REMEMBER: The DOJ said the review of these documents was complete in JULY.
DOJ admits it has still not released 99% of Epstein files, violating law
The DOJ said it is still reviewing millions of Epstein files, after previously claiming it completed the review in July

Trump was sued over exactly this constitutional violation (emoluments clause), appellate courts and SCOTUS sandbagged the cases, then, after Trump lost in 2020, SCOTUS vacated the district orders as "moot," rather than letting the orders stand, thereby enabling even worse violations in Trump II.

I would argue that the case for dismantling ICE has, at this point, virtually nothing to do with larger questions of immigration enforcement and reform, it's just clearly incompatible with a free and democratic society to maintain a secret police force with sweeping and arbitrary authority.
Senator Gallego weighs in as well. Note that at the start of 2025 he was considered a *moderate* on immigration and co-sponsored the Laken Riley Act. Him and many other Dems have been increasingly horrified at what ICE is doing and shifted away from a "more enforcement" focus.

It's as though the media heard Don Corleone say, "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse" and reported, "Don Corleone backs off threats of force. Promises only to make a really nice offer."
I would say it is genuinely inaccurate to say Trump said he would not use force to obtain Greenland at Davos just now.
Days ago he said he wouldn't rule it out. Now look at these three declarations in a row. They function as a threat.
