I know we're all seeing 87 unhinged things per day, but "guys if our multi billion dollar product doesn't start being useful for something, literally anything, the people might not appreciate us wrecking the planet over it anymore" is a truly bananapants thing to say out loud
Delicious to me

Personally, I get pretty weird about Greenland every time I fly over in awe of its unending mountains and glaciers. It’s one of the most gorgeous places I’ve ever seen from an airplane window.
i miss the old ways americans used to be weird about greenland, like getting iced in on ships off its coast trying to find the north pole. or inventing a fictional continent north of it for book sales. or getting poisoned by their crew for being a maniac and everyone fucks off back to greenland

Xenoblade Chronicles X might be onto something: it’d be cool if we could find ourselves with the press of a button.

Even before gen AI, big tech’s sales pitch has always been “we’ll spare you from slight and hypothetical inconveniences if you give us unfettered access to every detail of your life.”

Now this is just another layer of hell.
Every example of ai being useful begins with "okay imagine you're in a situation, and you are very dumb"

Really, ChatGPT is just giving you a luxury experience that is normally only accessible to the rich and powerful -- the experience of filling your life with butt-kissing and sycophancy until you completely lose touch with reality.

How on earth did [plastic characters holding game controllers] become a whole metaverse-spanning product genre?

I guess they’re at least nominally better than Funkos on the technicalities that 1) they are useful for precisely one function instead of none and 2) the eyes are less dead

It’s not about drugs. If it was, Trump wouldn’t have pardoned one of the largest narco traffickers in the world last month.

It’s about oil and regime change.

And they need a trial now to pretend that it isn’t. Especially to distract from his sinking under Epstein and skyrocketing healthcare costs.

Sneaking in one final freelance piece before 2025 comes to an end. For @avclub.com: It took multiple consoles and a lot of experimenting, but Sega finally figured out how to make the internet work for them 25 years ago with Phantasy Star Online

Happy 25th anniversary to Shenmue in Europe!

Here’s a podcast we did to commemorate the occasion.
It's been 25 years since the Sega Dreamcast's killer app #Shenmue made its voyage to Western shores. The DreamPod celebrates with Matt (@shenmuedojo.com) and KC (@thesegalounge.com). We discuss personal memories, the series’ legacy, and hopes for its future.
