California has 21 Salvia species (plus many cultivars). Two are annuals the remaining 19 are perennial which can (and do) hybridize. They have different bloom times from early spring through fall. I keep my favorite, S pachyphyla, isolated for seed collection.

PSA - leash your dog when you’re out for a walk. I don’t care if your dog is old or gentle or whatever. Your dog being off leash makes other dogs (who are on leash) very defensive and go into attack mode. Thank you for listening to my TED talk.
