What a weekend to remember. Thank you to everyone who joined us at our first-ever Día de los Muertos celebration at the Zoo. We are so grateful to celebrate this meaningful tradition with our Houston community and can’t wait to make it an annual event. 🦋💀✨

Our first Día de los Muertos event is next weekend, on November 1-2 with the Zoo staying open later until 9:30pm. At the heart of the event is a traditional ofrenda (altar) created to honor animals who are no longer with us like our beloved jaguar Tesoro. 💚 (1/2)

We’re just okapi-tivated by this cuteness! Our 6-week-old okapi is spending time outdoors behind the scenes with mom Sukari before he makes his public debut. Stay tuned for an update on this striped cutie.

Another year around the sun. ☀️ Our jaguar Vida turned 6 today and her animal care team prepped birthday enrichment including a banner, ice cake topped with fish, and extra meat from her diet. Her son Rojo joined in on the celebration after mom got dibs first.
