This might explain why this scene looked so authentic @chesneycat
Worth noting for those unaware, all the extras in the opening scene are actual NRAO staff. Who said radio astronomy doesn’t make you famous? 😜

Oh no, a politician wears a white poppy (a symbol from the 1930s) to promote peace and remember all victims. What an outrage...
(And I say this as someone who buys a red poppy every year)

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.
Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."
Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Vital piece of investigative reporting from Sky. They've uncovered the X algorithm which feeds users extremist right wing material from the moment they join the site. It is a far-right radicalisation engine, by design.

This is IMO one of the biggest discoveries of the year, but you haven’t heard about it bc of a NASA press release/embargo stuck bc of the shutdown. I however have no such constraint (we’re tracking it in radio but haven’t finished the paper) so got to write about it! 🔭🧪

A cosmic explosion known as GRB 250702B is by far the longest gamma-ray burst astronomers have ever seen—if it’s even one at all

Neutrinos are the second mot common subatomic particles in the Universe, after photons.
You live in a photon-and-neutrino universe.
Hold up your thumb.
100 billion neutrinos are passing through your thumbnail every second.
8 1/2 minutes ago they were in the centre of the Sun.

Not looking up at sky but down through 8000 miles of rock to the other side of the Earth.
Not with light but neutrinos.

During tonight’s Trick-or-Treating, our 3-year-old got more and more excited.
“More houses! More candy!”
Until he suddenly looked to the sky and shouted (verbatim):
“Can I eat the moon!?”
Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t, little one. Be the cosmic horror you want to see in the world.

My most popular cartoon by a long chalk is also oddly niche, in that it mostly appeals to a generation who remember the song it refers to and enjoy the nostalgia for their youth. I can draw one for you if you like.
