Die Gewalt des internationalen fossilen Kapitals
New study just out finds “efforts to repress climate and environmental protest are growing worldwide through a combination of new legislation, novel uses of existing legal processes, police actions, vilification of activists and both violence and killings.”
Here’s the global playbook being used to crack down on climate protest
A new study finds that repression of environmental protest is rising worldwide and Indigenous land defenders face the greatest risk.

If Maduro was smart he would just cut to the chase and hire Pam Bondi’s brother as a pardon attorney and bypass all this trial stuff.

kind of darkly funny that "gender studies" is the stereotypical "useless degree" because gender studies will help you understand a large and important chunk of the current psychosis in american life

If the DEA had killed 80 innocent Americans in the course of apprehending one drug dealer, there would be riots. But we are so ghoulishly indifferent to the lives and humanity of people abroad that it's barely even part of the conversation.
A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.

This is a devastating story. And I don't think the New York Times of all fucking places should be allowed to run a story like this without at least a paragraph acknowledging the role their newspaper had in mainstreaming the hatred that killed Lia.
A devastating story about the life and death of Lia Smith, a transgender woman and college student targeted by conservatives online because she briefly participated on the school's diving team. Lia was found dead by suicide last fall at the age of 21.

This should rank as one of the most serious corruption scandals in history- the White House sharing top secret military information with oil company executives but not with Congress, creating massive opportunities for insider trading and other corrupt deals.
