Very good Poverty Row film noir! Hell is found in happenstance. Ann Savage delivers one of the great femme fatales because the term barely fits. No charm, seduction, genius, or mystery. Vera clumsily tries, but there’s only malice, greed, stupidity, and blunt desire. She’s a furnace with no warmth.

On the anniversary of the LA fires, I was entrusted by the LA times with illustrating John Wirth’s personal essay about his experience losing his home. I can’t believe it’s been a year, I remember going outside and watching the ashes falling like snow like it was yesterday. Thank you to AD Jim Cooke
