I've wasted time, and watched many developers waste time, going round and round in circles with "AI" coding assistants trying to get the cat to lay eggs.

There are always going to be things LLMs simply can't do, because the training data just isn't there.

A very common experience for LLM users is what I call the “doom loop”. You ask the model to do something, it gets it wrong. You say “That’s wrong”, and it apologises ,…

Long and interesting read about AI and 10x developers. I like that there are arguments and explanations for the different statements.

We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers.

The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.

Even with LLMs, @birgitta410.bsky.social still cares about the code: “LLMs are NOT compilers, interpreters, transpilers or assemblers of natural language, they are inferrers.

Staff engineer @lawrencejones.dev has been building impressive AI tooling systems for closer to a year - and, naturally, using AI coding tools as well.

His take on vibe coding:

"Vibes-driven-development inevitably becomes just bad vibes."

Fact-checking wasn’t “biased” against conservatives. Conservatives just shared more false content. If there’s a sportsball game and one team fouls four times as much, it’s not “biased” for the ref to call four times as many fouls against that team.

Meta is dropping fact-checking to avoid anti-conservative bias- but is there actually evidence of bias?
We this test empirically & find that conservatives

* BUT share more misinfo
So suspension isn't necessarily evidence of bias www.nature.com/articles/s41...

One of my realisations I've come to during my newsletter/blogging pause is that the vibes crowd has thoroughly won, both in tech specifically and in general. Facts don't matter. Research doesn't matter. If it has research aesthetics and has the vibes you like, people treat it as truth.
