The Affordable Care Act enhanced premium tax credits have helped make health care more affordable.

Without an extension, the 22 million Americans who rely on the tax credits to afford coverage are seeing their costs rise by $1,000 on average—but many are seeing even higher increases.

THAT'S LITERALLY HOW THE SUBSIDIES & ACA EXCHANGES WORK ALREADY.

CONSUMERS ARE INFORMED BY COMPARING POLICIES ON THE ACA EXCHANGES, THEN THEY PURCHASE ONE AND THE GOVERNMENT PAYS SOME OR ALL OF THE COST OF THAT POLICY.

I'M TEARING THE LITTLE HAIR I HAVE ON MY HEAD OUT.
Cassidy: "The president is proposing that we take the $26b that would be going to insurance companies if we just do an extension and give it directly to the American people in which 100% of the money is used for them to purchase healthcare on their own terms. That makes them an informed consumer."

Excellent thread
This is actually kind of interesting.

On the one hand, the ACA *already* has absurdly strict Hyde protections, so that's clearly a poison pill stunt.

On the other hand, the fact that he's even talking about negotiating over an income cap suggests a tiny possibility that he's serious. 1/
Mike Johnson: "If there was gonna be an extension, you'd be massive reforms. You'd need income caps. You should not be subsidizing healthcare for wealthy people. You'd also need Hyde protections on those things and other innovations."
