Deckled edges is my safe word. Reading and writing from the Sonoran desert.
For @msmagazine.com, I wrote about the WNBA and the issue of pay equity. By the time the WNBA was only two seasons in (1999-2000) the average NBA salary was 58 times higher than the average WNBA salary. Twenty-six years later, the gap has jumped to 116 times higher.

I reviewed The Mel Robbins for Podcast Review (which is a thing I do) — and wow did this one stick in my craw.

Celebs are not really my focus area, but I think what really drove me bananas is how immensely popular this podcast is, when it ultimately says basically nothing.

Writers, if you are looking for a home for your MS, do this!

I actually almost abandoned submission to @sfwp.bsky.social because I thought had no shot. I knew their catalog. Also, my novel had also been rejected a lot. Like, a LOT.

I took a change & it changed my writing life. 10/10 recommend.
T-minus 3 HOURS until submissions for the 2025 Literary Awards Program CLOSE tonight at 11:59pm EDT!

Submit your manuscript for a chance to be the next @lumchanmfa.bsky.social (BITTER OVER SWEET), Rachel Zimmerman (US, AFTER), or @wendyjfox.bsky.social (IF THE ICE HAD HELD). buff.ly/AMZ2510

There's an art to the DNF, in a way. Especially (or at least, I say this for myself) if you read a lot. It's not even a full commentary on the book or the writing, but more of a "eh, not for me." I used to NEVER not finish. I thought, "a publisher saw merit in this book; I must find it too." Nope!
It's close enough to the end of the year that I can safely assume I won't be adding any more books to this particular list : )

Here's what I DNFd in 2024:

Halloween this year I went for a walk & when I returned, my friend's sunglasses were on the beach bench, but not the person. As if he had vanished.

Just thinking about how we had a laugh at the Halloweeness of it, but same scene would be hard not to be totally overwrought in fiction.
