📌 Heading into 2025/26, my freelance ⚽ writing will once again focus on Everton, Liverpool, and occasionally Manchester teams + others. Elsewhere, my coverage of American soccer from both sides of the Atlantic means I'm uniquely placed to cover the 2026 World Cup- I'm on the lookout for related work
This kind of thing, along with (dynamic) ticket pricing, etc., was the reason FIFA chose the United States as a World Cup host. Elements of the US sporting experience allow it to exploit fans. Wrote about it here for the Morning Star. morningstaronline.co.uk/article/fifa...
FIFA is selling parking spots near 2026 World Cup stadiums for between $75 & $175 per spot & per gameday.

A 2026 parking pass alone, at $75 in the group stage, costs more than a Category 3 ticket to any group match at the 2022 World Cup, which was $69.

FIFA’s next 2026 World Cup cash cow: Exorbitant parking prices
If you're paying to park at 2026 World Cup matches it'll cost you more than some match tickets at previous editions of the tournament

As always I am open to commissions from US soccer outlets on how the #JLeague has spent 3+ years preparing for its transition to fall-spring.
You’ve probably heard that the MLS Board of Governors is meeting this week to discuss, among other things, a move to the “European” schedule. My understanding is that there’s no way that happens in 2026, but there’s a very real possibility that it could happen in 2027.

There were some calls for this CPL final to be postponed, but I doubt it would have got the attention it did without the snowy conditions. I've never seen the CPL (or Canadian Championship) get this much coverage before. The "Icicle Kick" goal from David Rodriguez will be legendary 🇨🇦⚽❄️

For the love of God watch this on FS2.

The 2025 Canadian Premier League Final between Atlético Ottawa and Cavalry FC is being played in a snowstorm. You can’t see the pitch at TD Place Stadium in Ottawa. The back of the coaches are covered in snow from the wind. Players are shoveling snow.

If you weren’t watching this you missed a goal off a bicycle kick. The guy must have felt like he landed on pillows. Incredible scenes.

There are protests outside the Etihad Stadium today ahead of Manchester City v Liverpool, calling for an end to human suffering in Sudan and highlighting the UAE's involvement.

I think even Dan Burn thought that was a penalty.

This said, there seems to have been an uptick in coverage of the UAE's involvement in Sudan in the past few days, possibly because UAE diplomatic advisor Anwar Gargash spoke directly about it last weekend, admitting mistakes made ahead of and after the military coup in 2021.
Had an article in the works on this for weeks (hopefully out in coming weeks (the downside of being freelance)). Agree that lack of coverage (in front pages too) is an issue. It's so directly related to a high-profile club and by extension their group of clubs that football shouldn't ignore it.

there's such little a degree of separation between what's happening in sudan, and uae top brass, and city as a club that i believe it's fair to ask questions about their removal as owners. the lack of discourse over what's happening there on the ground is alarming, undoubtedly. the world is...
