But given how hot the summers are, those conditions are potentially worse than the cold of winter. Sport generally will probably need to adopt a system where location and climate dictate schedules and tournaments, regardless of the time of year.

There are potential player welfare issues in these conditions, and it raises the question of whether the North American leagues planning on moving from a summer season to an autumn to spring one should do so, but this weather certainly made for a Canadian soccer spectacle.

It's organised by an independent group called Manchester Stands With Sudan. I have seen some City fans voicing concerns about this, though. I think we are only just starting to see wider awareness on this issue, so see what happens at future games.
