I do think that. if Democrats manage to flip control of our gerrymandered state legislature come 11/3/26, they need to move hard and fast to undo the power grabs the GOP overrided Govs. Cooper and Stein on. What will probably be on their to-do list:
- Removing Dave Boliek & giving the governor back the constitutional power to appoint the elections board. Kick out [Sam] Hayes, [Robert] Rucho, [Dallas] Woodhouse, and the GOP aides
- Removing the requirements that the governor appoint a replacement US Senator or elected judge as the same party as outgoing one (i.e. allowing the GOP to pick their replacements) Move up mandatory retirement to force out Christian nationalist Justice Paul Newby.
- If the leaislature has a mirror flip of contro from R to D à la 2010, they need to put constitutional amendments for Roe,
independent redistricting, and voting rights on the ballot.
⁃ Increase the minimum wage, eliminate the right to work law, and force Duke Energy to lower their rates for consumers.
⁃ Implement strong anti corruption and whistleblower laws so that a lot of corrupt SOBs like [Phil] Berger {Sr.}, [Tricia] Cotham and [Ralph] Hise get the punishment they deserve.
⁃ Reintroduce straight ticket voting since eliminating it benefitted the NC GOP and put in ballot drop boxes w/ 24 hr video monitoring.
⁃ Put a constitutional amendment allowing the governor to veto state and congressiona maps to voters.
- Term limits. Implement a similar law like Virginia has.
