Is it really the case that the debt can increase by 38% in 3 years? That's around 11% compounded (and that's ignoring any repayments). I know inflation just about touched 10% a few years back but it's been well under 5 for most of this time....
This is absolutely shocking. Something has to be done about this appalling situation in which so many now find themselves. The government needs to act

Even the Guardian can’t help itself with the sanewashing. This isn’t “digitally altered”. It is fake, fraudulent, dishonest, abusive. “Digitally altered” is a change in contrast or sharpness.

Apparently I haven’t switched off enough of the Artificial Stupidity in my computer. (To be clear the LHS is my typing and the RHS is the autocomplete suggestion.)

Kudos to Gary for realising and saying this ages ago. But bugger me, why were the "big guns" so slow to realise it too, and how much faith can we have in their judgement?

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

Yes, the UK govt’s official position is that they should continue to post on xitter but no one in the UK should be allowed to read it.
I fundamentally cannot compute the push for a government level ban of X when the vast majority of government figures and the entire infrastructure of the progressive left that would push for a ban also spend their days doing volunteer work for Musk by providing free content to X to keep it alive
If Brazil can do it so can the UK - assuming they have the guts to ban paedophilia

Elon Musk backs down in his fight with Brazilian judges to restore X

So the govt’s official position is that they should continue to use xitter but no one in the UK should be allowed to?
NEW: Liz Kendall, the technology secretary, says Ofcom would have the "full backing" of government if it opted to block access to X in the UK (but it's a decision for Ofcom)

This is a thread of major media outlets falsely anthropomorphising the "Grok" chatbot program and in doing so, actively and directly removing responsibility and accountability from individual people working at X who created a child pornography generator (Elon Musk, Nikita Bier etc)

sorry to grimpost so soon into the year but we truly gotta fight back against the people who are proudly encouraging use of the mistake generator and that's going to mean criticising some people we formerly respected as people who like the idea of science or truth or evidence

Without exaggeration, there has never been a major loss that has been so self-inflicted and openly welcomed as machine-generated lies, mainly because it appeals to big male egos and self-interest through chatbot sycophancy and those personalities have had the biggest platforms

Why are people not pointing out that this is idiotic nonsense? People can be living abroad for any number of reasons when they have children…the idea that these children are therefore not British is plainly silly.
New YouGov research for ippr finds that civic conceptions of being British are held by most people, with a third prioritising birthplace. Reform voters are outliers, against the general public view, weighting ancestry and ethnicity more highly
