#Critterary All saints (chosen ones of gods), Mick included, have the ability to change into the forms of their gods' signature animals or monsters. For Mick, that's obviously a dragon, but other gods' signature animals include a unicorn, a bear, a giant spider, and yes, a wolf. (1/?)

(From The Nameless Song, a WIP about a guy who turns into a dragon.)
The zizzun at the front of the church bowed her head, then pulled an object from her lap and planted it beside her: a wooden staff, tall and carved to resemble a thin tree whose branches twisted around a crystal ball. She gripped it with her two right hands and pulled herself up, and there she stood, elegant and tall, with wings and black-and-brown tail folded neatly over the back of a pearl gray, sleeveless gown. She turned and cast solid black eyes on the party, antennae twitching out of a long, dark amber face. “They told me you would come,” she said, her voice breathy and quiet. “Let him in, please. I wish to speak with him.” The guard buzzed and bowed low, then peeled himself away from her. Cautiously, Mick stepped forward, eyes locked onto the queen. She practically glided forward, with her feet obscured by the satin and voile of her skirt. At the very center of the nave, she came to a stop and used both of her free hands to curtsy, bobbing her head low without taking those black eyes off Mick. “I am Queen Yarrow of St. Nadia,” she said. “On behalf of my colony, I welcome you.” She extended a hand to him, palm up. “I see that a glamour has been cast over you. Please know that within this temple, you will be safe. Assume your true form, so that we may discuss matters as equals.”

#WIPSnips The afternoon before Mick's transformation, we get a first glimpse of what it actually means to be an adventurer. Namely, monster murder.

(From The Nameless Song, a WIP about a guy who turns into a dragon.)
A mile outside of Faelenvale, a sunflower raised its head to the sun. Not a flower, still with its roots reaching deep into the ground and head tilted permanently to the sky. No, this was a monster, rustling through the grass and weeds, large claws padding over the earth. It unfurled the leaves at the ends of its stubby arms and fluttered the yellow petals fanned around its brown, bulbous head. Seed-like organs—hundreds of them—twitched in its face as it bowed low over the fallen body of one of its brethren. Its face undulated, and a small, soft growl rumbled from somewhere in its fleshy, green chest. Several paces away, Mick took aim. His eyes narrowed. His arms ached. His bow creaked softly in his hands. Just a little longer. The timetable said it would come any moment now. A whistle sang across the field. The sunflower shot up, turned its head away, lingered there as it watched a train chug along the Fae Rose Line in the distance. It clicked, then let out a screech, then loped across the long grass towards the train. Now. Mick let go. And his arrow planted itself in the back of the sunflower’s head with a satisfying thock. The monster screeched, but the lightning magic in the arrowhead buried in its skull exploded across its head. It seized, pitched forward, face-planted just like its sibling in the grass.

This, and the comic it came from, has been extremely important to me since I first read it as a depressed 15-year-old in a hella abusive friendship, but FUCK the guy who wrote it.

Mick's hobbies are lit nerdery and playing the violin. He doesn't often get to read, but he *does* fiddle. In fact, fiddling is incorporated into his powers.

Arthur's include playing the concertina, fencing, and performing questionable science. All of which he does, to his landlord's dismay.

“Fly,” Mick deadpanned. “After what happened yesterday?” Yes. “Are you insane?” Perhaps not as much as someone who seems to prefer talking to an entity in his head instead of simply thinking at him this morning. Good morning, by the way. “Right, right, good morning. This is easier,” Mick muttered. “Anyway, no. I nearly killed myself the last time.” The dragons did an excellent job at patching you back up, considering how quickly you took to running, the Dead God quipped. Either that, or you’re that concerned about Eleanor. “That doesn’t mean I want them to do it again!” Mick hissed. Oh, I understand completely, Mick, the Dead God replied. However, at some point, you’ll need to acquaint yourself with the abilities this form gives you. “Why couldn’t you have just made me something I could work with? Like a human?” Precisely for these abilities. You must have faith in me, Mick. I gave you this form for a reason, and you will grow to appreciate its perks. One of these is flying, which will come more naturally to you than you believe.

I should really clarify that I only use Insta to look at bees. :'D That is not an exaggeration. I follow a bunch of beekeepers/bee conservancy accounts and do searches for bees, and that is how I make myself happy during the day.

Will I ever actually use my main Insta for author reasons?

#Critterary Until the events of TNS, that would be the dragons. When the Dragon Wars ended, the dragons vanished, and Eldanans believed they went completely extinct. In actuality, dragons can shapeshift, so they just went into hiding. But now and then, you'll have somebody stupid. (1/2)
