For over a decade I have tied my shoes one specific way: Ian's Secure Shoelace Knot. I learned it from Ian (aka Professor Shoelace) whose site is over two decades old. The knot has never failed me. I spoke with Ian about knots and the dangers of the modern internet. aftermath.site/ians-shoelac...
Ian's Is Still The Best Site For Tying Your Shoelaces
Ian's Shoelace Site has been teaching people to tie their shoes for more than two decades. His knots are wonderful. But it is vulnerable to the forces tearing the internet apart.

Cancel. Genuinely. Cancel. A rejection at the border is a permanent mark against entry, forever.

If you insist, follow dangerous territory protocols: know your embassy details, make sure someone knows your travel details, and have funds for emergency legal, health, and departure expenditures.

crunch in games is reckless, it’s running a car without oil or care, watching sparks fly and smoke billow and going “that’s what maximum efficiency sounds like, when parts fail I’ll replace them knowing I squeezed 110% from them”

except the parts are people so the driver is evil as well as stupid

Creative Victoria announced their latest round of recurrent funding last month — and the only major funding opportunity for arts industry service organisations for the coming few years.

And practically no money was awarded to experimental, digital or games arts.

I watched this video just now, and I don't really know how to respond. I'm terrified that this is happening in the US, and what that means for other US-adjacent countries. I can't wrap my head around the existential terror of the Doordash deliverer, or the people who housed her.
this is the most confronting, heartwrenching video i’ve seen that feels like a video portal into what Nazi Germany looked like

a woman orders doordash and the driver, pursued by ICE, flees terrified into her house. ICE then begins threatening the family youtu.be/ppfFrlvaXgE

I have been sitting around waiting for a rental inspect all day, in a state of constant background anxiety because someone will be here soon to invade my space. They gave me a window of 9am-5:30pm and apparently have no way of communicating any kind of smaller ETA window as the day progresses.

I've said it before:
Criminalise guns
Legalise drugs
Reframe the constitution

That way everyone can still have the right to bear arms, as in 😯"woah dude my arms look huge like a fkn bear's arms"

Still have these tickets for sale!
Sydney friends!
I have two tickets to see Gianmarco Soresi's sold out show at the Seymore Theatre on Wednesday Jan 21st at 9:30pm. I'm gutted I can no longer attend, but use my bad luck for your benefit!

If you would like to buy them from me, I'm selling the pair for $139.80.

This has taken far too long, too many of my friends have lost jobs due to the overdue bursting of this bubble, compounded by the AI bubble following on its heels. Fuck this vacuous tech snake oil and fuck anybody who has ever invested in it.
so it’s going well then

December was lovely in a bunch of ways, but super hard in a bunch more. Then out of nowhere someone I haven't seen or talked to in more than 15 years gifted me the game at the top of my Steam wishlist, just out of the kindness of their heart 🥲

Everything is going to be OK. Be kind to someone today.

Just entirely out of curiosity: at what point does the rest of the world see the political, economic and cultural direction of the American government and have a chat about it in a room where they aren't. When, exactly, is the international breaking point. What depth must be plumbed. How and when.

Reminder that The Guardian has a financial partnership with openAI so they have a vested interest in trying to paint this shit in a positive light.

You can't trust a single thing they say about it whatsoever

The comments on this are all about how sweet it is and I feel insane. Using AI to make fake memories of your grandma with dementia and telling her they happened and then filming her reaction

by far the funniest use case for AI is “I use it for powerpoints because I hate making them and nobody looks at them” because it kinda sounds like the real workflow savings would be to stop making powerpoints

"We used AI for placeholder assets."

No you didn't. You have made games before. You know that placeholders are supposed to be SUPER OBVIOUS so you can't accidently leave them in.

You hoped no-one would notice, but they did.
