Fundamentally, what has happened to the US is a misinterpretation of "capitalism" as being "to succeed, we must eliminate the competition" versus what capitalist principals actually say, which is "to succeed, we must be better than the competition"

Romero didn't have the long-term results of cosmetic plastic surgery before Night of the Living Dead. Gunn only sort of had this before the commentary on rampant consumerism that was Dawn of the Dead. This is what the *actual* zombie apocalypse looks like.
this mar-a-lago lady is over 70 but has gotten plastic surgery which makes her look like an embalmed 13-year-old

2017? I'm fairly sure that's been the message since at least 1980. Probably earlier, but my reasonable memory doesn't go back much further. TBF in the 1980s it was probably just "millionaires"
Please!! Say you understand!!!!

When my cat gets happy, curled up in a lap and otherwise relaxed and getting all the pets and scritches he wants, every single natural tendency toward murder that is natural to a cat is transferred to his tail to beat the ABSOLUTE LIVING FUCK out of everything in range.

On top of everything else, I'm pleased to see Portland properly taking up the mantle of weird (complimentary), which Austin entirely gave up right around the same time that one guy decided to move here.

More than ever, I do not want "the internet of things". Most of the things would be better as LAN-only, or not connected at all.

I'd prefer to live in a universe where "a bunch of aggressive diseased lab monkeys escaped" were not the fifth-most ridiculous thing that happened in a day.

The desperate need to accumulate more and more at the cost of everyone else’s wellbeing should be classified as a mental disorder, and I will absolutely die on this hill.
Guillermo del Toro on wealth: "a wealthy man is a man who has enough, not a man that needs more. If you have enough to invite someone for a beer? You're rich. If you have a yacht, planes, islands, and you still need more? You're not rich."

Since we've renamed the DoD to "Department of War" here are my proposals for renaming other departments:
Agriculture -> Department of Famine
HHS -> Department of Pestilence
Treasury -> Department of Death (and Taxes)

Have to love when FedEx needs a signature on a package, and you have on camera their truck stopping for about 10 seconds, driver never even getting out, and then driving off and a "failed delivery: recipient was unavailable" notification.

Been thinking a lot about this as I watch a project slide rapidly into AI adoption: what are the implications this has on the IP and the company value? 1/?

Of all the accounts on the lists today, this one that's been around for a while has to be the best representation of the current US government.

This is an obvious propaganda push, give the first post from almost every one of the accounts on this list.

i imagine there’s about to be an influx of MAGA chuds spewing their bullshit but i really can’t stress enough that if we don’t give them oxygen, they’ll get bored and leave. block early and often.
i know the desire to fight with these sick freaks is strong but resist the urge and just block. it’s better for your brain.

For some reason, today seems like a good day for the periodic reminder to block and move on.

So I guess Google is going to spam me once a day for every app I'm connected to that has the recent Unity security flaw, reminding me that the app needs to be updated? I didn't really need a functional inbox, right? I'm sure they offer an "AI" solution to deal with the noise they're generating.

Fucking Samsung mobile devices. I now have *four* that have split in half from battery expansion from the last 8 years. Absolute garbage. Guess I'm going to have to buy yet another Android test device.

There is a 100% chance on any project that a new programmer will come in and suggest using some tool feature or technology that the team tried in the past and found it caused more problems than it solved.

Quick napkin math: the Unity security flaw has so far cost me around $5K of my time for all the various updates it forced, if I were billing at usual contract rates. But since they're my own company's apps, I just get to eat that cost.
