I just listened to a man ask me “What’s the alternative?” when I asked him to justify the negative environmental impacts of AI.

The alternative is to not use it. We don’t have to destroy our planet, decimate the job market, and lose our critical thinking skills.

My future mother-in-law called me today in tears over Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s confirmations. She said “That man is going to kill my son.” My beloved fiancé who is an organ transplant recipient and who relies on herd immunity for diseases he can’t be vaccinated for.

“She will destroy me, and I’ll let her.”

I’m thrilled to share this character art I commissioned of two of Death Card’s characters, Mikaela and Joelle. The wonderful artist is @ cenaye___ on IG! She did a fabulous job bringing the girls to life!

I think I tuned into the Super Bowl pre kick show late, but I LOVE how unapologetically Black it is!

I couldn’t care less about the game itself. I’m here for the music!

I’ve made my morning phone calls to my Senators. Have you?

Don’t forget that if you have phone anxiety you can always call early in the morning or later at night to leave a voicemail. If the inbox is full, send an email! We need to raise hell!

Okay, I want to say it again for anyone who needs to hear it right now:

Yes, calling is better for getting in touch with your reps. But right now? DO IT HOWEVER YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE.

I'm really concerned that the emphasis on calling right now is stopping people from getting in touch.

I called and emailed my (useless) senators because even if they don’t care about their constituents, we should still demand to be heard. Set aside some time today to make one phone call or write one email. Choose a topic that gets you fired up the most. Make them listen to us.

So, serious question: Where do we shop now? I already pray for Amazon’s downfall daily, but are there good alternatives for Target and Walmart?

I hate that these corporations are emboldened to do this because they know we don’t have many alternatives 😤

As a reminder, an easy way to resist is to wear a mask. More importantly, it will protect you and others. By masking regularly, you’ll help normalize it and reduce stigma. And as you can see, you can look hella cute while doing it!

Stay safe and stylish, y’all!

The only way I can stave off despair is by doing what I can. Controlling what I can control. For me, that has meant downloading and printing important resources, buying physical books and DVDs, stocking up on goods like masks, and resharing information on social media.

If you voted for that man or support his policies, unfollow me. My books are not for you. I hope you get what you deserve.

Make sure you use your library cards. Check out books by Black authors, indigenous authors, queer authors and other marginalized communities.

Also, ask your local library to buy more titles by marginalized folks. We often buy those requests.

Use Libby! A lot!

Back in 2020-2021, I wrote a book about how to survive scary hard times by writing your own stories and getting lost in the imaginary worlds you create.

So this feels like good timing: Never Say You Can't Survive is just $2.99 in ebook formats for just one day.

Friendly reminder that if you buy a book on Kindle, you're only paying for the rights to read, not own. If a book truly gets banned, it will be taken away from digital platforms like Kindle, nook, etc. Consider getting physical copies of banned (or other) books!
