Europe’s counter-proposal guts core concessions in US plan: deletes NATO-freeze clause, removes recognition of Russian-held regions, raises Ukraine’s allowed troop size, keeps NATO membership technically open, scraps blanket amnesty, & kills joint US–Russia investment scheme tied to frozen assets.

Internet scams are going to get worse and honestly it’s just a sad situation.

If you have billions of ppl in developing countries who don’t have opportunities to make a decent living but do have access to the internet, some are going to use that to degrade themselves + others, to all our detriment
I had a popular account with a valuable audience and my Twitter payout was $80 a month-ish, to the point where I disabled monetization instead of uploading my ID. Payouts are only material if you live in a developing country, so “guy in Nigeria posting right-wing Amerislop” has taken over the site.
Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

Tough because journalistic knowledge say you have to be there (true, I think) but probably only for first-person accounts, not the commentariat.
If you’re a journalist who’s still on Twitter, from now on in your writing you have to replace “the American people want” with “troll bots in Eastern Europe demand”

Being there makes your judgment suspect. I don’t care how savvy you think you are, you’re marinating in a disinformation campaign.

Great night watching Dan Brubeck Quartet. He told a WWII story of his dad Dave accidentally starting the first integrated US Army band.

A foot soldier, he filled in piano for a USO group once, then was told to find wounded soldiers who knew music to start a new band. Chose the best but - oops. 👨🏾👨🏻‍🦰

I took this course and recommend it. You will be prepared to respond effectively and safely next time you see someone harassing in public.
Sexual assault, femicide, domestic violence, etc. stories are all over the news these days and it can make us feel really overwhelmed and powerless.

Might I suggest signing up to learn bystander intervention? It'll give you concrete tools to feel empowered. And it's free!

Massive shoutout out to whoever handles the Royal Canadian Air Force’s social media account. They responded to every single comment on their already very solid Trans Day of Remembrance post and they responded like this…

Did not realize that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada serves as the Deputy Governor General. (GG Mary Simon had been ill recently so he filled in for her at Remembrance Day services as well as hosting a dinner for the visiting Swedish Royals).

On this Trans Day of Remembrance, I hope Albertans will remember that trans kids and teens are living breathing humans who just want to be themselves, without fear of hate and discrimination. Demonizing kids merely to score political points in some weird culture war is craven and cruel.

Microsoft is raising the price for Microsoft 365 by 45.6% next year. They say it reflects the amount of value they’ve added. I think they’re trying to finally make AI pay for itself. #AI
