Feel if Cabinet wants to ban phones for children, it should start by taking the same medicine for its members and their staff. A couple of months off X and they might all start behaving like human beings again.
UK Labour roaring ahead with its plan for children to be completely banned from any online activity not directly supervised by a qualified adult, while all adults will have their jobs replaced by an AI... so I guess they'll be free to look over kids' shoulders 24/7...
Ban phones throughout the school day, Phillipson tells teachers
The education secretary says phones should not been seen during lessons, breaktimes or lunchtime.

The BBC has published the video. By framing this as "conflicting accounts" when the video clearly shows some of the core claims ["defensive shots"] to be false, there is a risk of saying that government officials are entitled to their own parallel facts

I’m really quite surprised at the BBC website today. ‘Here is a video, some people say it does not show what it very obviously shows’ is not how you report this.

After the past week, it's now time for the Government to step in on this.

We should be backing the BBC to the hilt. The message should be "we have got your back but you have to get back to journalism without fear or favour. No more fawning. Stand up, do your job."

The BBC is lost
The BBC coverage is absolutely terrible.

It leads on "sharply contested narratives"

It has a dramatic skew to the US government

It has posted the video but has failed to report on what it shows: it shows the US govt account is untrue

Genuinely think this coverage is worthy of formal complaint – and if the BBC doesn’t take it seriously, it should be escalated to Ofcom.

The appearance of caving to the Trump White House, when the BBC is being sued, could be disastrous for public trust.

My suggestion for these winter evenings is to treat yourself to @ianwinterton.bsky.social's audio adaptation of Ramsey Campbell’s The Hungry Moon. Hugely atmospheric and unnerving, with shades of Nigel Kneale as superstition and religion collide with late 80s nuclear anxiety.

It's going to be the universities that can guarantee that there is no AI component of their courses that will win in this game. What employer wants a graduate who hasn't done the work? What student wants a university that doesn't have lecturers giving the courses?

The Greens appear to be the only party who consistently point out that privatisation is a scam.

These utilities were sold off with no debt, are monopolies, yet strangely they're now saddled with debt but those who run them have become incredibly wealthy at the detriment to everyone else.
Thousands left without water in the middle of winter in the UK. And those same people are now facing a massive bill hike.

Privatised water is a scam.

I've written to the Prime Minister asking why he won't end this rip off and bring failing South East Water into public hands.

Reminder that in the UK an incoming radical, populist government would have immediate access to immense, unchecked executive power.

And the current government is doing nothing to protect us from that.

The UK constitution is even more vulnerable than the US constitution

Have clothes sizes been radically reappraised? I used to be about as average a medium as could be, but now medium shirts hang off my shoulders with baggy bits around the arms. Small remains too small. Is it assumed that the normal medium upper body now has to account for gym-fuelled bulk...?
