Trying to be a serious person, but probably thinking about X-Men and Star Trek.
I’ve read Stereogum (on and off) for over two decades. I cannot overstate how much better it is to have a human talk to you about music than it is to just hear whatever an algorithmically generated playlist spits out.
For years, advertising has been how Stereogum made money to pay its writers. While we made progress moving away from that model, Google AI search has decimated the business almost overnight. Today we relaunch with a greater focus on subscription. We’d love your support: stereogum.com/2478838/ster...

Just rewatched Fantastic Four. I’m a little concerned I wasn’t harsh enough on it the first time around.

PLEASE REPOST: a couple of bar staff urgently needed for shifts in Stratford tomorrow - it's a West Ham home game and I've had staff drop out so you can borderline name your price

Every now and again I have to take a break from my hobby of buying comics to actually read some. Ice Cream Man: The Mortal Coil Shuffle is a comic told as a deck of cards, imo, is a very good idea that has been executed very well. Worth picking up before its sole printing sells out!

Possibly a tough request but is anyone able to recommend any comics YouTubers/video essayists who aren’t, like, sensationalising, nitpicking or straight-up hating?

On the one hand this is great for New York, but on the other this is absolutely devastating for the next 5 years of Daredevil storylines.

Coca Cola's latest AI xmas advert apparently used the same number of workers as their non-AI ads and involved five AI specialists who "contributed" by prompting 70,000 video clips and sifting out the ones that worked. All that time and energy and it still looks, no joke, like a load of shit.

Whenever I see some dimwit take about how I “need” to see opinions I disagree with, it’s always from professional opinion-havers. Tbh what I need to see more of are opinions I agree with. For a huge number of reasons those aren’t coming from columnists at American news orgs.

Deeply enjoying Zadie Smith on Adam Buxton’s podcast essentially telling him that reading the comments is a waste of time and why Ezra Klein is an intellectual lightweight. Love Adam but his centrist tendencies deffo need that sort of nudge once in a while.

Went into Rough Trade yesterday promising myself I wouldn’t buy another book and then this laser-targeted me for a *fiver*. It’s brilliant, obviously, but one must wonder if the system is working when I, your local Fleet Foxes enjoyer, didn’t notice it was out until it was discounted.

We went to the Thrilling Adventure Hour live show and got a bonus Rose Matafeo appearance. What a win.

I’m really enjoying Taskmaster but I find it sorta grating that (whether it’s their comic personas or genuine reactions) Maisie Adams seems furious about everything she’s asked to do, while Sanjeev Bhaskar seems to actively resent that he’s on the show at all.

We did a Halloween "creepy crawlies" quiz at work yesterday and I won by so far a margin that people asked me if I had some kind of insect-related hobby and I had to be like "No, I'm just a huge fucking dork, thanks"

Great start removing Andrew’s title, now we just have to do the rest of them and we can really go somewhere.

My body is desperately fighting the post-MCM con crud, successfully, but my mind is powerless against the urge to go back. My kid absolutely loves artist alley and I love that she gets to so enthusiastic seeing people who love the same stuff she does.

Asked my kid what her favourite tube line was and she said the Elizabeth Line. Now isn’t the time and place but I’m going to have to have a stern conversation with her later.

Optimism is, for me, defined by the people on this train who just gathered their things and headed to wait by the doors *at the advertised arrival time* even though the train left late and has been running slow during the trip.

I cannot shake my suspicion that the reason every new fast food joint is called like “WING FUCKERS” is because chicken wings are basically unwanted offcuts, so the potential markup on them is probs insane. Extremely 2025 vibes. Guaranteed in 5 years someone tries to open a fast food pig offal joint.

Didn’t spend loads at MCM today, but I DID get prints of both Noodle and Noriko, which if nothing else proves that they’re willing to cater for the rapidly aging nerd demographic. Back again tomorrow for more obv!

Instagram (well, Meta, but I’m not on Facebook) just offered me the chance to pay £4 a month to use their stuff ad-free, and honestly about ten years ago I would have jumped at the chance. Unfortunately they’ve enshittified their products to the point where they’re not worth actual money to me.
