I've been thinking about the UCP and why they're making some of the choices they have been lately, and honestly, I'm confused. There are a handful of UCP MLAs who won their seats by not very many votes, and yet they still refuse to stick their necks out or even engage with their constituents. (1)

“We [need] Albertans to understand who is standing up for students, who is standing up for parents, and who is standing up for teachers."

Alberta's New Democrats stand with teachers. Period.

The Alberta NDP say it will "vigorously" oppose any back-to-work legislation brought forward during the fall session.

Just called 811 to book our COVID vaccines, waited on hold, then got a message that they're receiving a high volume of calls before it said goodbye and hung up on me. 😐 It should not be this hard to get our damn COVID shots.

Unbelievable. We need this UCP government gone. 😡
🚨 This is inexplicable news to share. If in Alberta and you want flu and covid shots for NEXT year (2026-2027), you have only until December 15 of THIS year to order them.

This is not incompetence. It’s a deliberate choice to prevent as many people ..

Today, Danielle Smith will unveil Alberta’s new vehicle license plate that features a slogan: “Strong & Free”.

Smith will surely argue that it is featured on Alberta’s coat of arms however, we all know that’s it’s a dogwhistle for separatists and, is new plate a priority?

I just want Albertans who still support this UCP government to give me a real reason.

The UCP have made everything worse. Skyrocketing utilities & insurance rates. Healthcare on the verge of collapse. Teachers on strike over working conditions.

They’ve made an awful mess.

Alberta teachers rallied outside MLA offices this morning, and I'm sure you'll be shocked to hear many of our UCP MLAs were "out of the office" today. Cowards.

Someone please help me understand why the government would lock us out when we're already on strike. What is the purpose? I've never been through this process before, so I have no idea what the intent is here.

Drove up to Edmonton for the rally at the Legislature. We're catching the LRT from Southgate and the entire platform is a sea of red. ❤️✊🏻 #RedForEd

Our superintendent, assistant superintendent, and heads of various district office teams have been sending us words of support, solidarity, and encouragement today on our last day before the strike, and I'm feeling very 🥹🥹🥹 right about now.

If your municipal campaign sign looks like it was straight up dumped into a UCP campaign sign template, I will 100% NOT be voting for you.

This is Bruce in August.

His apology might frame last nights abuse of speakers as a one off, but his contempt for Albertans isn’t a one off, it’s a pattern.

And one that Smith tolerates and endorses.

Do you think Danielle Smith knows the ATA *is* teachers? Like does she get that when she talks about the ATA misleading teachers it makes zero sense? They're not some separate body from teachers like she suggests. I'm glad Schilling pointed out (again) that PEC are all active classroom teachers.

This feels like a Beaverton article. It isn't even so much the part about seats not being able to recline, it's the paying part about paying *extra* for a seat that can recline. What's next? Having to upgrade to be able to use the bathrooms? This is just getting so ridiculous.

WestJet says its redesign will give guests a ‘modern cabin experience.’ Passengers who want to recline will be able to pay to upgrade to premium seating.

Just had a look at the official list of candidates running in our municipal election, and there are a number of great people to vote for. This is the first time I can recall feeling excited about my voting choices at literally any level of government. (The joys of living in rural Alberta. 😒)

So, when exactly would my students' families browse my classroom shelves? While I'm teaching? On my own (unpaid) time? And what if while they're browsing, they object to other books that fall outside the target of the ministerial order, like say picture books depicting all types of families?
8/10 Teachers posted photos of bare classroom shelves on social media, saying they lacked time to catalogue collections.

Nicolaides clarified teachers don't need formal lists - they can share photos with parents or allow families to browse shelves directly.

I may be misreading this, but it sure sounds to me like I'm still going to have to catalogue the hundreds of picture books on my grade 1 classroom shelves.

Anybody have a better understanding of this?

🧵 It's so easy for the UCP to say things like "record amounts of funding" when it comes to the education budget because, as a number, then yes.

But notice that they don't focus on the per student funding, the number that really matters. That's the lowest in Canada under the UCP.

Rob Breakenridge: Less focus on Ottawa and more on the books, please
This government needs to focus as much on its own massive spending as it does picking fights over 'sovereignty.'
