📣 NEW! I’ve just released the BIGGEST and perhaps most creative project I’ve ever worked on!

“Searching for Birds” searchingforbirds.visualcinnamon.com 🐤

A project, an article, an exploration that dives into the data that connects humans with birds, by looking at how we search for birds.

FYI if you'd like an easy way to add pronouns to your profile & posts, there's labelers that will do that for you.
The pronoun labeler, which was by far the most useful labeler on the site, was deleted by its creator. But thanks to @ripperoni.com there’s a new one available. I highly recommend it. It’s a great way to share your pronouns or see someone else’s pronouns at a glance.

Hey #dataviz folks looking to work with one of the best in the business 👇
Attention visual journalists: I’m always open to pitches for @sciam.bsky.social’s Graphic Science column. The column tells concise stories on topics in science via graphics (dataviz, illustrated diagrams, comic-style explainers, etc). It appears in both print & online. DM me for a pitch guide.

The Post was foolish enough to unleash a bevy of the world’s most talented multi-disciplinary journalists out there for their competition to scoop up. These are some of the most hard working and skilled people I know.

Save this one and reshare it please! 📊

News: I was cut yesterday in a newsroom-wide layoff affecting 300+ staff at The Washington Post.

I spent the last decade leading and building the award-winning Graphics team. I'll miss them.

I'm now exploring senior graphics, cartography, or leadership roles. Intros welcome.

I love the Washington Post. I've been a subscriber for many years.

The Post’s coverage has enriched my life and is indispensable to my work as a policymaker.

I think I speak for many when I say it is heartbreaking to watch Jeff Bezos run the Washington Post into the ground.

I’ve been a longtime admirer and fan of Alyssa and her work. If you’re looking to hire an incredible #dataviz journalist, you should reach out!
I was laid off from the Washington Post today, along with hundreds (!!!) of incredible colleagues. If you need a data journalist, chart designer, or wacky-idea-specialist, give me a shout!

One of the weirdest parts of designing #dataviz that are shared to a broad audience is reading the weird comments about them.

"Why would they do this? It's TERRIBLE!"
"BAD charts!"
"I would never X"
"Journalism is dead"

Like if ya'll only knew the amount of consideration that goes into every viz 😮‍💨

We found so many examples of missing federal government data that we couldn’t put them all in this story.

“The status quo was, the federal government is going to collect and disseminate data. That is no longer a reasonable assumption.”

The Trump administration has disrupted data collection on everything from homeland security, maternal mortality, hunger, drug use, education, disaster preparation and the economy.

🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!

ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.

I'm one of the 2% of websites that are going to be impacted by this change because I use the `calc(100vw - <length>)` pattern and I don't even care because this is such a good change. Absolutely worth needing to apply a couple of changes.
Using 100vw is now scrollbar-aware (in Chrome 145+, under the right conditions)
From Chrome 145 onwards, 100vw will automatically subtract the size of the (vertical) scrollbar from it if you have forced the html element to always show a vertical scrollbar (using overflow[-y]: scr...
