Thank you to NY State Senator Brian Kavanagh for inviting me to testify about the importance of making Big Oil pay their fair share of a crisis they knowingly perpetuated.
Home insurance is in crisis, and Big Oil's lies are to blame.

"We’re never going to bend the curve of ever-rising insurance costs without addressing the core driver of higher prices: the worsening climate disasters that Big Oil knowingly made a reality," explains CCI's @iylas.bsky.social.

California’s “insurer of last resort” is proposing a 36% rate hike after catastrophic wildfires caused billions in losses.

Big Oil is fueling this crisis. It's time for policymakers to protect Californians by making these companies "pay for the damage they’ve caused," says CCI's @iylas.bsky.social.

Do you think the fossil fuel industry should be above the law?

For months now, we’ve heard rumblings of Big Oil companies lobbying Congress for a get-out-of-jail free card. But in the last few weeks, their allies have started to say the quiet part out loud. CCI's @iylas.bsky.social explains.

I’m a veteran, oysterman, and working class Mainer who’s seen this state become unlivable for working people. And that makes me deeply angry.

...it is actually the party’s centrist establishment, not its progressive wing, that’s most likely to violate the maxim of “Vote Blue No Matter Who.”
Centrist Democrats Are the Actual Traitors to Their Party
While progressives often get accused of undermining the Democratic Party, the evidence shows that it’s the moderate wing that most often violates the “Vote Blue No Matter Who” principle.

Me saying words about holding Big Oil accountable 👇

😘😘😘
When did you first start to realize that climate change was a problem?

Big Oil has known since the '60s that their fossil fuel products would dramatically alter Earth’s climate, resulting in "catastrophic" effects. Now that we know how big of a problem we're facing, it's time to make Big Oil pay.

With regard to Big Oil's efforts to downplay the dangers posed by a climate change:

“My reaction was shock and disbelief,” she said. “It actually felt more personal. Like a punch to the gut.”
🚨 NEW: A first-of-its-kind lawsuit is seeking to hold Big Oil companies accountable for a person's death in a climate disaster.

“I never would have in a million years guessed that a heat dome and climate change would be what killed my mother and what took her from me.”

Our new report shows how "advanced recycling" is a deceptive industry ploy to keep producing more plastic.

Big Oil --> climate crisis --> insurance crisis

once again... Big Oil pays nothing
March 31, 2025 at 4:47 PM
Here it comes.

Not so thinly veiled efforts to grant legal protections for oil companies who KNEW (since the 1960s) and LIED (for decades) about their role in perpetuating the climate crisis.

All while communities suffer the catastrophic consequences these companies knew would occur.

Sickening.
🚨Report: Big Oil CEOs told President Trump they are scared about facing climate lawsuits in court.

Oil lobbyists are "urging members of Congress to consider granting legal protection for oil companies against" climate lawsuits.

I’m introducing legislation (SB 222) to ensure oil companies pay for the climate-fueled disasters that are burning & flooding California.

Californians are bearing these costs with explosive insurance premium increases that make CA less affordable. That has to change.🧵
