Hello! My name is Ivy Valentine and I am a Black feminist public scholar who cares a lot about public memory of enslaved Black women. In this piece for @scalawagmagazine.bsky.social I write on how enslaved women resisted their conditions through reproductive control of their bodies xo
Reproductive Resistance in the Antebellum South – Scalawag
The testimonies of the formerly enslaved allow us to study the widespread organized reproductive resistance on the plantation.

On this Trans Day of Remembrance, we remember the bright and courageous trans people whose lives were stolen by hatred. Their absence is felt across our city.

We will honor them by building a New York where every trans person can live safely, fully and freely.

airfrying beets and tuna in a public setting is NASTY WORK
So apparently my company can't remove the guy cooking his beets and tuna in the air fryer. People have picked up and moved their desks because of it. One guy said he was at his desk seasoning chicken breasts.

People are livid.

White bros have tanked the economy OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. It's a testament to white supremacy that they continue to hold the power to do this.

So Harvard is keeping this guy, but Claudine Gay had to step down over ginned up plagiarism accusations and bad-faith accusations of anti-Semitism.

Got it.
Larry Summers tells @theharvardcrimson.bsky.social
he’s stepping back from all public commitments in light of his messages with Epstein, saying he is “deeply ashamed” and hopes “to rebuild trust and repair relationships.”

He will continue teaching.

Antisemitism is a lot like Qanon child abuse conspiracies in that there’s this real and bad phenomenon and, parallel to that, what can only be described as a large scale mass psychosis about a mostly fictional version of the same phenomenon

Apparently Trump is now calling for the release of the Epstein files, which of course means that they have finished deleting all the evidence that he was complicit.

I'll get back to "party unity" as soon as the Senate Minority Leader tells us if he voted for the Democratic party nominee for mayor of his city.

I'm tired of party unity only ever running one way.

I'd like for a really smart political journalist to write a longform article about wtf is going on with Fetterman

For me, its the total lack of understanding landscape and using available power.

Democrats have never before had this much political capital in the Trump era, and eight bloated cowards just squandered it.

Its not that dem leadership are bad people, or (as in the left's telling) that they want to lose

But they all grew up politically in the pre-trump era & that's very hard to unlearn

On top of refusing to fully fund SNAP during the shutdown, the Trump regime has:

-Cut $1 billion from USDA programs supporting food banks
-Enacted tariffs that have caused food prices to rise
-Made the largest cut to SNAP in history
-Canceled the annual food security survey

Shameful.

fun fact: part of the reason there's been a mass exodus is because of the anti-trans bigotry The Labour Party decided to embrace. Maybe something to consider about throwing marginalized people to the wolves for political expediency, right @mattyglesias.bsky.social?
No.
