Sparking joy today: It is 20F outside, and with the bounty of snow, I decided today is a perfect day to attempt hand churning my first ever batch of ice cream, outside, in the cold. Taking my time warming my hands in between whisking the vanilla-coconut base for what I hope will become rum raisin.

You know what intermittent fasting is, right? I am using the same approach to doom scrolling or watching any news clips—waiting until I have my first meal of the day (for me it’s like 1 pm), and I try not to watch something super triggery first.

I would love to have something new to say.
Paper after paper showing covid has serious long term health impacts that compound with every infection.
Time after time N95 masks have proven to be the best defence against infection.

Heart Failure Deaths Have Accelerated in US Since Covid Pandemic

"The Covid pandemic didn’t just kill people directly. It appears to have accelerated a long-brewing reversal in US heart failure deaths, with mortality climbing faster since 2020 after years of decline, new research shows."

A Black man was killed by ICE (off duty) in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. And like Renée Good, he was an American citizen. But most people have not heard about Keith Porter.

I need y’all to realize this. Black people experience this lack of visibility all the time when it comes to being victims.

Rarely do I think remakes of movies are good or necessary. That being said Breakfast at Tiffany’s could benefit from a remake, possibly with Jon Cryer as Yunioshi (but as an adoptee with Japanese parents—so no insulting caricaturish stereotype), maybe Arianna Grande as Golightly…

Went to get groceries and was pleased to see quite a few people wearing N95s.
Kudos to these experts urging the WHO to change their guidelines from surgical masks to respirators to prevent airborne viruses like Covid & the flu 👏🏼

But it really shouldn't take public pressure to align guidance with well-established aerosol science

Long COVID is best described as a cluster of overlapping symptoms rather than one single condition, according to a review of 64 studies from 20 countries covering 2.4 million people.

Fatigue was most common, often alongside muscle and joint pain, cognitive symptoms, or shortness of breath.

Yup—there are so many things the Great Barrington Declaration/Brownstone Institute dudes said they “would have done” during the pandemic if they’d been in power

Um, they run the federal health system now

Color me shocked (!) to see that—given the reins of absolute power—they’re f**king things up 🧐
Love it. A must-read from @joho.bsky.social, reminding Prasad, Bhattacharya, Makary et al., reminding us that the U.S. is facing several disease outbreaks, so they have a great opportunity to show the rest of us how their way is “better”.

We’re waiting…

As we experience a huge surge of flu cases, a reminder that the widespread usage of masks at the start of the COVID pandemic wiped out a strain of the flu.

If you haven’t been masking up lately, now would be a great time to restart.

When you are in a negative feedback loop w/someone who expects you to adjust your habits & they don’t, & they insist on leaving you voicemails that amount to lip service (apology but their actions don’t align with the apology), I highly recommend deleting the voicemails without listening to them.

In my final household re-org project before 12/31/25, I am purging out a lot of items that no longer serve me. I’m purging out a drawer of Rx meds I stopped taking & forgot about. Xanax, Wellbutrin, Viibryd, Trintellix, Eliquis. Pretty brutal evidence that the last 6 years have been for me.
