deregulating cars makes it easier and cheaper for people to wield an amount of force (2000 lbs at 100 mph) that would have made a king 200 years ago blush

can we just acknowledge that, in fact, the "lean" in almost every city is toward ppl who identify with a sports team (fun, provides way to talk and spend time with friends) more strongly than with a political party (lies, sucks all money and meaning out of your life)
This is from 2017 but I can't imagine it's dramatically different today as both were on the heels of Trump being elected, but the fan bases of NFL teams actually skew left wing

In addition to this being loser shit—they have a THREE SEAT majority in the House—do we imagine that saying stuff like "What leverage do we have?" during an unprecedented crisis will inspire more people to support Dems?
"What leverage do we have?" says Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. "They control the House, the Senate and the presidency; it's their government."

it is a testament to our living spirit that we find these ppl's actions hard to believe. nevertheless, lol
every Donald Trump cycle:

TRUMP: i'm gonna kill the easter bunny

FACT-CHECKER: he has not stated how he is going to kill the easter bunny

TRUMP SUPPORTER: i think he means he's going to kill evil bunnies

TRUMP: *beheads the easter bunny*

graeber has an amazing quote abt this "ugly mirror" phenomenon, each new tech teaching us were monsters:

"consider the view of human nature one might derive generalizing from the experience of driving to work on the highway, as opposed [to] public transportation," which the govt killed on purpose
I think about this tweet constantly

How do normal Americans get to participate in making political decisions, and how do tech platforms change those options?

bringing some david graeber into shoshana zuboff's awesome (but not anarchist) analysis of the rise of surveillance capitalism
The democracy market, illustrated
How have Americans traditionally gotten to participate in making decisions that affect us, and how are our options to do so changing?
