#PetHealth I was very anxious about removing Jarvis-dog’s post-surgery bandage, but he was very good and it came off without much bother at all with the special plaster removal wipes. Wound and stitches look good, which was a concern because it’s near a joint that necessarily moves a lot

From an outing yesterday. The lake and sky at the horizon were exactly the same colour, an amazing effect badly captured here. The island in the far distance appeared to be floating in the sky

Very amused that I apparently read this at the same time as KJ Charles. I also loved it. Don’t know why it took me so long to get to Bujold’s fantasy after having done all the Vorkosigan novels a few years ago

I wrote a trilogy of novels published by HarperCollins about a brother and sister caught on opposite sides of the war to unite Viking Age Norway.

Today is my birthday and if you are inclined to share this, it would be a lovely present!

The Half-Drowned King|Paperback
"Linnea Hartsuyker brings myth and legend roaring to life in this superbly good page-turning saga of Viking-era Norway. The book’s fiercest magic shines in the characters of Ragnvald and Svanhil...

Agree on all counts with the below!
Congratulations and I can’t recommend it enough. Not only is the book amazing, but Vico Ortiz delivers a world-class performance on the audiobook. I can’t count the number of times I forgot they were doing all the characters by themself. A great read/listen all around.

Read my own Running Close to the Wind fanfic and remembered how much I love those horny fail-pirates. Maybe it’s time for a book reread

Feeling pretty shitty atm. Hard stuff is hard, don’t feel like I’m doing very well at being a functioning person with decision-making capabilities or executive function. Mostly just running the anxiety subroutines

Today a coworker told us he’d found a lost 16-week-old kitten near his home, brought it to the vet to be checked & now had it staying with him. We helped him find the places online to post about local found cats. His post was only up a few hours before the owner replied. Smol ginger safely returned!

Getting US political news through people’s reactions to other people’s reactions to something someone said about a thing that happened is very confusing and on some days makes Bluesky unreadable

Having happened to take up painting as a hobby, after painting not at all in the previous decades of my adult life, at the same time as the AI boom hit, I feel this sentiment acutely. My art is def bad, bc I have no skill yet, but the experience of making it with my own hands AI could never give

Very much don’t want to go to work tomorrow. Weekends are too short.

Was at a six hour meeting with a project group (good project, constructive work) and then had intended to work more from home to get a full workday, but decided “fuck it” and took a nap instead. Then did a study of fall trees for my landscape painting course & it didn’t suck. Good choices.

#death Caught myself lying to my Finch app when it asks how I’m doing because it’s Saturday & I did my strength training & had a nice walk with the dogs & now E & I will have coffee & later I will cook a nice meal for us & paint a tree for my pastel course, surely that means I’m feeling good? (1/2)

I ordered a fancy (but surprisingly inexpensive) box for my pastels from the UK a few weeks ago, and having them all neatly arranged and visible has made painting so much easier. Yay for investing in your hobbies?

The Kiruna church move (literally putting a whole church on wheels and driving it across town) is marvellous slow TV. I think they’re done for the day put will start again early tomorrow morning CET. Lots of cool detailed info in English and another live stream here: lkab.com/en/events/th...

Apparently cooking dinner from scratch is too complicated a thing for me right now, I stressed myself out and then got really upset when the dog was annoying. Very tasty dinner, though.

#death Yesterday we cleaned out my mum’s room at the care home, with the help of a good friend and two guys with a van we hired. Today I’ve set up a time with the funeral director for next week to plan the funeral and called government service to order death certificate and proof I’m next of kin.

#death My mum passed away last night. I’m doing okay-ish under the circumstances, but feel unbelievably tired.
August 12, 2025 at 2:12 PM
Went to visit my mum at the care facility. E was kind enough to come with me (this restricts visit time because we can’t leave the dogs alone for too long, but I needed the moral support). Mum is indeed doing worse, as reported, but she was calm while we were there and happy to see us. Glad we went!
