Always a great sign for how things are going in your country when 21-year-olds are like “hey, I innovated a system to play bagpipes in tear gas”
Jack Duffy attaches a respirator to his bagpipes to play through tear gas. “I always play it whenever the police retreat because it's like, ‘You fucking ran while we stayed,’” he says.

I can now Bench 225 for 3x8—but I've spent the last six weeks trying to get my cardio back. In 2021, I was running like 45km a week. Covid, dislocated ankles, & an injured knee ended that for the length of my PhD.

this week I ran 6km twice, which is the first time I've been able to do so for years.
Barbell bench press 8 reps:

205 for three rounds
225 for four rounds.

I’ve never managed that before!!

Yesterday the Washington Post cut its book section. Today, Oklahoma has eliminated tenure as even a concept in its public schools. Literacy and critical thinking are under siege in the united states

Folks outside SF/F don't know that Asimov was a sexual harasser because while he was alive fandom thought it was cute (up to and including Asimov being invited to give a lecture on "The Power of Positive Posterior Pinching" at Worldcon, which he, wisely, declined).

Apropos of nothing:

The speculative fiction community is especially protective and supportive of writers as professionals, and some practices normalized in academic/lit fic are viewed as predatory in spec.

Seeing a practice as “normal” in lit journals doesn’t mean it will go over well in spec.

Whole lot of you following Neil Gaiman, and I assume it's because you forgot you did so and he stopped posting when it was revealed he is a rapist.

Since he's trying to make a return, do yourself a favour and check if you're following @neilhimself.neilgaiman.com and if so unfollow and block.

apropos of nothing in particular, @lilashapiro.bsky.social gave us a tremendous piece of journalism last year, and it's always a great time to revisit it and thank her for the work she did in bringing these stories to light.

The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline not already being a major series is a crime!!!

A HBO Max style miniseries of The Marigold by @afsulli.bsky.social would fucking kill.

Hell, I think a few of Michelle Berry’s novels would make incredible thriller series!!!
Quote tweet with a Canadian book that would absolutely kill as a TV series.

I'll start:
RED X by David Demchuk
The thing that bothers me so much about Carney's joke about greenlighting the Heated Rivalry show is that it furthers the narrative that it's a needle in a haystack. Anyone who reads Canadian books and watches Canadian film knows that we could have dozens more HRs with enough funding.
