This is so bad— people who voted for this whether bc they wanted the racism and discrimination or bc they were dumb enough to believe he’d bring down prices need to be disenfranchised for the rest of their lives.
He’s endangered the democracy, the economy and now our physical lives for profit.

Schumer still does not understand that those private conversations aren’t what GOP Senators really think. Their public support for Trump is what they really think. The private comments are performative, designed to lull Senate Democrats into complacency and inaction.
Schumer says Republican senators have "expressed a lot of troublesome comments about what Trump is doing and the way he is doing it" in conversations with Democratic senators today ...

Happening now: a protest is underway in downtown Chicago against the overnight U.S. attacks on Venezuela, which included the kidnapping of its President Nicolás Maduro. Protestors are filing into the city's Federal Plaza despite the dark and below-freezing temperatures.

Trump claims Venezuelan oil will pay for the costs of US occupation of the country.

This false claim was also made about Iraq, which ended up costing the US almost $2 trillion and significantly increased the deficit.
Q: Is it possible that the US ends up administering Venezuela for years?

TRUMP: Well, you know, it won't cost us anything because the money coming out of the ground is very substantial

Genuinely confounded that anyone could believe Trump, who has repeatedly shown that he is not the least bit interested in anything that isn’t his own aggrandizement or profiteering, cared one whit about peace. Truly mystifying.
I’m thinking this morning about all the people I spoke to last year who were absolutely convinced, and tried to convince me, that Trump would be antiwar compared to Biden and Harris.

In the past week alone he has attacked Nigeria and then Venezuela and also threatened to attack Iran (again).

What do you think the heads of state of Mexico, Denmark, Nigeria, Canada, South Africa, and Somalia are thinking this morning?

This is important because again, there are rare earth and other mineral negotiations going on right now that will determine the path that the next 25 years will take.

You break it, you bought it.

But given his inability to focus on anything difficult, and his lack of concern for others beyond himself and his own circle, it’s not tough to imagine Trump walking away from what happens next.
The US is now responsible for the governance of Venezuela. Toppling the regime of a smaller country is always the easy part. The hard part is what comes after. Neo-cons always expect a pro-US nirvana. It rarely works out. But I suppose the oil companies can seize some assets.
