this is something i would like to see more effort and communication on from both the council and the mayor, if i am being honest. i don’t have any issue with the housing junket and approve basically all housing initiatives, but the job situation here needs a lot of attention too
At the same time, if we're trying to sustain so much of our housing on income, we NEED to invest in better job opportunities.

The city can't keep funding housing like this if it's bleeding income, year-over-year. We need to be adding jobs proportional to the rate we expect to add housing.
Multnomah County is losing jobs even as state job growth hits nearly 5,000
From June 2024 to June 2025 Multnomah County shed around 5,000 jobs, but gains in other areas helped keep state job growth in the positive

In today’s episode of “what we could spend our $100 million of Parks SDC funds on,” Ross Island lagoon is doing its annual algae bloom, interfering with peak swimming season.

Harmful algae bloom alert expands to most of Willamette River through Portland
The bloom carrying blue-green cyanobacteria — a perennial summer problem — can cause health problems if ingested and can be deadly for dogs.

Congratulations, Los Angeles!

It's time for Portland to pursue policy to reform outdated regulatory requirements that make it harder to build affordable housing - including reforms to allow construction of multistory, multifamily housing using a single staircase.
LA's single-stair motion has been adopted!

And I very much appreciate these quotes from two moms of young kids on our council. More family-sized housing please!

It’s been said before, but I’m personally brutalized by ChatGPT’s usage of em dashes. Humankind should have exclusive rights to the premier punctuation mark of written English.

Wow! Fantastic turnout this afternoon.

We were thrilled to see so many Portland: Neighbors Welcome members and community leaders show up at today's legislative event to learn about opportunities this legislative session to demand greater housing abundance across the city and the state. #orleg

Just got a new batch of Zenith public records.

Here's one of what the Mayor's staff (names omitted) were preparing prior to the Zenith work session.

Clearly they were/are gearing up to present Zenith as a decision that's already been settled. Yikes!

Also, settled by voters?!

Comments like this are at best deeply uncurious, and at worst sowing distrust in the institutions committed to investing in Portland. Yes, it costs money to build things.
So that pencils out to about $155,000 per dorm bed.

Got it.

My take on the Portland council president result is that it was always going to be Pirtle-Guiney, and I’m glad that it was Green (in moderate D4) who banked some political capital to spend in the coming weeks. What that translates to will be our first real judgment of the progressive councillor bloc

It’ll be a while before we get more details on the program design (RFP is out for a program operator), but what do you want to see as a part of Portland’s E-bike rebate program? I’m hoping the “medium income” tier is at least up to 120% MFI. bikeportland.org/2024/06/27/p...

It’s really incredible how much BlueSky has seemingly encouraged folks to get off the sidelines and do some capital P posting. Legacy social media networks have hit maturity and feel joyless—not even taking Elon’s bullshit into account.

We are thrilled to introduce Portland’s new pro-housing city council majority and mayor.

Our endorsed and greenlit candidates will make up 8 seats on council and the mayoralty, and we look forward to working with them to ensure that Portland is a city that welcomes all our neighbors.

While pricing is definitely a challenge for more regular use, using an e-bike share system as a tourist in a new city feels like a cheat code. Truly one of the best ways to amp up one’s perception of a place
