One thing I’m really loving about the olympics is all the cameras that follow the athletes down and around the various tracks… it gives a much better sense of the speed of the events

I don't know how strong the appetite for change is among rank and file faculty but I would love to see more reward given to activities that explicitly benefit society as a whole... Doug Ford wants Canadians to boycott Chinese-made EVs

There are only ever so many arguments I am gonna make in a single column BUT I will add that I'd be a lot more inclined to back "tariffs on Chinese EVs 4evah" if Ford, GM, or Stellantis had actually made more than trivial noises of dissent from Trumpism.

In September 1907, Newfoundland was granted Dominion Status and became the Dominion of Newfoundland.
For the next three decades, the island had Prime Ministers, rather than premiers.
Here are the Prime Ministers of Newfoundland.

I think we need a category for "Alternative Ownership" that exists in the space between typical freehold land ownership and rental.

We are a "nation of owners" but we have a massive divide between mortgage free owners of multimillion $ assets, and the other half of the city who never will be.

NEW VIDEO: North America’s Elevator’s Problem

Elevators are absolutely essential to modern cities..... and it turns out North America kind of sucks at them. We partnered with @sightline.org to look into the many issues plaguing our elevator industry, and what it might take to fix it.
The United States has the fewest elevators in the rich world, with Canada only a bit ahead. We teamed up with @uytaelee.bsky.social of About Here Videos to investigate why, exactly, North America sucks at elevators.

On Dec. 2, 1919, Toronto's Ambrose Small deposited $1.7 million into his bank account and met with his lawyer.
Then...he vanished without a trace. The money remained untouched by Small and he was never seen again.
This is the story of a very interesting mystery.

Glad that @crkn-rcdr.bsky.social has done a lot of work on post-cancellation rights for Canadian Schools to help manage these transitions. My advice for school's breaking a big deal: you need robust ILL (RapidILL is worth the price of admission) & a link resolver that finds OA copies (we use LibKey)
