Seconded! Eric is amazing. Such a great guide.
BOOKMARK THIS: If you’re ever looking for a birding guide in Oaxaca, I strongly recommend Eric Antonio Martinez. He was awesome: Knew where all the birds were, great ear, knew all the plants and insects, as well as local history. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sunbittern was one of my most wanted birds in Costa Rica. Here’s a back-of-camera shot I got of one snagging a crab midstream. Amazing encounter.

Birding tip: Reach out to your heroes.

Back in 2017 I hit up my favorite blogger and asked him if he would like to go birding around DC. 8 years and several Egg McMuffins later I’ve found a lifelong friend who’s been a great mentor in birds and fatherhood.

The work is mysterious and important…

Reviewing records after the Great Backyard Bird Count #GBBC means refining a lot of scary numbers.

I work for a globally distributed company, and in our weekly meetings we have a time reserved for “sharing moments of cultural significance.” This week was a little slow to start…

…so I told them about weird duck time! 🪶

Hoping my time at the grindstone allows me a chance to visit the world’s greenest desert once again. 🏜️

In the meantime here’s a Black-throated Sparrow being impossibly at ease on a very spiky cholla. (Picture taken the last time I was in AZ.)

I love a good field gear recommendation.
With thanks to all those who contributed to the recent #BirdingGear discussion on winter gloves, I’ve bought a pair of Heat Company’s Heat 2 Softshell fingerless, foldable mittens. Have worn them for last two days cold weather combined with my Forclaz merino liner gloves they’re are toasty warm 1/4
