A grumpy, dyslexic northerner from Hull. On holiday from the world's leading hate platform.
@hullcitycouncil.bsky.social schemes often include images of people cycling (and not cars) - conjuring idyllic, peaceful scenes, but offer no means to do this safely.

This Chanterlands Ave proposal will apparently provide cycling infrastructure "where possible", which sounds like a cop-out to me.

If anyone has spotted any particularly car-brained or motonormative policy statements anywhere (e.g., from government, local authorities, businesses, etc.) then I'd be grateful if you could point me at them. It's for a thing.

In the last 2 years @hullcitycouncil.bsky.social under @cllrmikeross.bsky.social have opened a popular green park to cars because of 1 driver complaint, opened bus/cycle lanes to cars despite receiving dozens of objections on safety grounds, and provided grants to open chain fast food restaurants. 🤦‍♂️
There’s no one answer to this but making it easier for kids to be active outdoors, particularly as part of daily routines, can play a big role in supporting healthier lives. Child-friendly streets that support doorstep play and safe, attractive walking & cycling routes to school are a priority.

This reminds me of when my wife encouraged me to try rollerskating in my late 30s. It was a bad idea and I consider myself lucky no one lost their lives.

To go from "Happy international nurses day" to the vile dog-whistle opportunism of "immigrants are driving down wages" in the space of 3 hours is quite the turnaround, @damedianajohnson.bsky.social.

One again, @damedianajohnson.bsky.social - this is vile. This legitimises racist lies. And to say it ill-advised from @teamlabouruk.bsky.social is an understatement. You cannot adopt Reform rhetoric and win.
I was wondering why Keir Starmer's "island of strangers" figure of speech made my blood run cold. Then I saw this video clip made by @zarahsultana.bsky.social. The rhetoric is the same and @teamlabouruk.bsky.social need to ask themselves if they think echoing Enoch Powell is sensible.

Sums up @hullcitycouncil.bsky.social's transport strategy under Hull's #Libdems perfectly.
Fundamentally the issue is clear: if I leave my home and choose the most polluting and antisocial form of transport my local authority makes this easy; if I try to be responsible, pro-social and healthy, my local authority makes this hard
