Thinking today about this sentence:

"Every $100 increase in median rent is associated with a 9 percent increase in the estimated homelessness rate, according to a 2020 report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office."
Inflation is making homelessness worse
Rising housing costs, combined with persistent inflation for basic necessities like gas and food, have left more Americans newly homeless and millions more fearing they’ll soon lose their homes.

I *need* journalists to start asking questions like:

"So youre saying this was illegal but undoing it would be an administrative nightmare?"

And also

"Why would SCOTUS concern themselves with your administrative nightmare?"
HASSETT: If the Supreme Court doesn't find with us, refunds would go to whoever cut the check for the tariff

BRENNAN: Doesn't the administration claim it was the country that paid that?

HASSETT: Uhh --

To be (un)fair, I think lack of humility and lack of willingness to listen to subject matter experts in other fields is exactly how we got into this mess.
a little more humility will go a hell of a long way here

Americans & Europeans needlessly exposing African babies to preventable diseases just to see if they can find something that would justify their preexisting antivaccine beliefs is not only unscientific and actually anti-science, it is very much reminiscent of colonialist, racist human rights abuses
“It is not clear what the research question is. It seems to be about the safety of the vaccine rather than its effectiveness, but both are already well-established, and to undertake such a study in a population where almost 1/5 of the adult population has a marker of infection seems extremely risky”

Knives Out Wake Up Dead Man:

-Was a good time
- Borrowed enough from horror that the Catholicism made it feel Flanagan-ey
- Sure was a story about how Logic, Skepticism, Justice, and Queer folks are allies with a (weirdly) pure hearted Catholic Church against the American Heresy.

There are many reasons the Trump admin's 'just set up health accounts' proposal is dogshit but the fact that patients are going to go bankrupt while the usual suspects profit is certainly a good reason to oppose it.

Republican calls to give Americans cash instead of health insurance subsidies double down on a decades-old strategy of moving people into high-deductible plans with health savings accounts.

You jest, but I think we could all really work some ya-yas out in the lazer tag arena.
Everyone is getting upset about the data centers. They pollute a lot and use a lot of energy and will eventually be very ugly/huge vacant buildings. And I understand being mad about that. Until you consider the state of the lazer tag industry at this moment, and how much help that sector needs.
