Sending comics across the American border is tough because of tariffs. A lot of well-meaning creators have suggested printing and distributing within the U.S. instead. Here's why that's not a useful option for many crowdfunded comic books #comics #kickstarter

Why Printing and Distribution In America Isn’t A Tariff Solution For Comic Book Crowdfunding Publishers Outside The U.S.
As a comic book creator located in Canada, the American import tariff solution has been extremely challenging—to the point where I made my most recent Kickstarter campaign digital-only rather than …

Air Transat only served 2 US destinations out of the 67 global destinations it flies to. Travel is down between the countries, but the loss of two flights to Ft Lauderdale and Orlando isn't the apocalypse this headline suggests.
When Canadiens continue to avoid your country something is really, really wrong.

Update: I just received an invite to an INEOS drive event in March. I replied to explain that I would not be providing the company with any media attention due to the bigoted comments of its owner.

Sayin that, yeah, I’d go wild tho. There’s currently a guy who faked being Japanese that got promoted to 1 of the most powerful positions in comics and people are just cool w/ that. This is a joke industry because of people like this and will continue to be even if you happen to hit the career lotto

I'm still at it, posting links every Friday to the web stories I found the most interesting over the previous week, as a way of furthering distancing myself from social media shares and trying to foster community outside of walled gardens.

Here’s a look at what caught my eye on the web over the past week. When Hannibal Lecter Took Over. This is a book excerpt from “Hannibal Lecter: A Life” by Bryan Raftery, but what…

Here's what 's true: AI companies are spending billions of dollars a year to get millions of dollars in revenues. That is merely the tip of iceberg of unsustainability that LLMs are built on.

But please, continue to promulgate a narrative about what *might* happen.

I reported four financial scam ads I was served one after the other on Instagram yesterday, with AI deep fakes of the prime minister, and one of a fake 'assault' on his daughter. Today I was told none of them went against community guidelines. Seems bad!

I think that these films also prey on the fear that being 'nice' is actually a weakness, that predators are around every corner, which is something that resonates with those who have no community and who don't realize that interactions with other humans don't have to come from a place of distrust.
Home invasion horror can sometimes come from too much politeness.
From Funny Games and Speak No Evil to Creep and The Guest, we look at how social conditioning, discomfort, and the pressure to be “nice” turn hospitality into a threat. 👻📽️

HOME INVASION BY INVITATION
When horror lets danger in politely, these films expose how being “nice” delays survival; turning hospitality, discomfort, and social obligation into the real point of no return.

Just a reminder that Scout Comics continues to sell copies of my book illegally, despite our contract having been finished a year ago, in as many Vinnies as they can while I play whack-a-mole with dmca takedown notices. Oh and they haven't paid royalties in over 2 years.
Are there good, even great Small Indie Publishers?

Absolutely! Most are great! Always vet a publisher with your fellow creators.

But if they're new, have a ton of money, propose a "whole new deal/distribution system" and want a portion of your IP?

Run. That's a Venture Capital Vulture Publisher.

"If you enter the wrong code, you will be incinerated and your pizza will be mounted on the wall as a warning to others."
The idea that picking up a pizza at a counter was in need of this kind of iterative technological innovation is helping me understand the Year Zero mindset.

Last night I watched 47 Meters Down: Uncaged thinking it was the extended/unrated version of 47 Meters Down. It was actually an almost entirely unrelated sequel, which I didn't find out until the end credits. I felt pretty stupid, but at least I got to see the acting debut of Sistine Stallone.

Continuing Faraday Future's policy of building products nobody wants to buy, in quantities approaching zero.
Meanwhile, Faraday Future is apparently now building humanoid robots.

I'm sure they're just as legitimate as their drowned-in-ai cars are.
