#hellosunshinespoilers i've never been targeted by cops but i sort of tried to imagine how it would end up like if i was, during an episode, and it's not good. it's really, really not good. the scariest moment of this book are these pages imo, bc it's the most genuine physical threat alex is facing

notable in recognizing how many people they end up murdering are being shouted at in the middle of a psychotic episode where their cognitive functioning is severely limited, they're terrified, and they're often hearing many, many other voices screaming things at them simultaneously
One thing I didn't fully appreciate until I sat on a jury and reviewed body cam footage for myself, is how cops yell contradictory instructions at people like "Don't move" "Put your hands up" "Get the fuck out of here" "Keep your hands where I can see them" etc. all screamed at your face with guns

re: drawing black hair; use references and do your best to understand what's actually happening with hair styles and different textures and qualities etc, just like you do with any other person's hair. it's INSULTING to treat black hair like it's somehow more difficult!! like it's not worth learning

I wish I'd thought sooner to explain to tradpub editors that illustrating a graphic novel is not like writing a prose novel or illustrating a picture book, a 250-page GN is actually like illustrating eight picture books.
