This week's free short story is titled “Norbert's Risky Days”, and is about a man whose character flaws and self-radicalization have led him down a path in which his risks climb invisibly, and lead him to death.

I didn't want to detract from your post on B&N and Amaz*n undermining indie bookshops. It was a good thread on an important topic.

What I want to say directly to you, though, is that those same indie booksellers mainly support the big imprints that fuck indie writers

It’s worth mentioning that Bookshop.org was specifically created to help indies—you can buy online, choose an indie to support, and the store gets a huge percentage of the sale. Even if you don’t have an indie in your area, Bookshop supports bookstores!

This statement from the NSF is insane.

Science is, in essence, designed to separate the true from the false.

Understanding how falsehoods spread is key to the scientific endeavor. It is not a violation of free speech to be proven wrong.

Question for anyone who rides a motorcycle or bicycle- could you wear a helmet on top of a wig, or would you have to remove the wig first?

No, Elon, if you theoretically teleported all the Italians to America, the place they landed wouldn't suddenly become Italy. It would just be full of angry Italians

The country of Italy is defined by its geographical location.
That's how this fucking works, you putz

An examination of more than 1,200 federal judges and state supreme court justices turned up dozens of judges who chose not to recuse when facing potential appearances of impropriety involving familial financial connections.

Many Judges Choose Not to Recuse When Big Cases Intersect With Their Families’ Interests
Ambiguous — and unenforced — recusal standards mean few checks and balances for top judges when cases involve their family members.

You know what I would love to see? I would love to see a longform piece explaining tariffs, trade deficits, their impact on economies, how they have been dealt with historically, and how to understand them so we all better understand what’s going on.

What did America's largest corporations do with their spoils from Trump's tax scam? Between 2017 and 2022:

-Stock buybacks jumped 98%
-Dividends increased by 40%
-Meanwhile, wages only grew by 14%

In some years these corporations paid their CEOs more than they paid in taxes.
