Would love to see all animals and the wilderness free of human exploitation in my lifetime. I know I'm dreaming but tis a noble mission.

I said I'd write a few words about Craig Robertson's much-anticipated Chris Knox bio, which I love.

These are personal reflections on what will likely be the definitive history of a man who changed indie/alt music globally

'Cause, when it all comes down to dust
Can I say that Craig Robertson's bio of Chris Knox is anticipated? It is, and it's arrived.

You may have heard Peters trying to make the situation with the abducted NZers all about him

They’ve been released and their flights home paid for by the people who love them

Unlike Peters, who has all his flights paid for by taxpayers

We need constantly to remind ourselves that there's nothing normal or inevitable about it. It would be a catastrophe from which we would not recover for many years, in which terrible things are done, to minorities, to vulnerable people, to the rest of the living planet. We cannot let it happen.

No sudden rupture is now required for the far right to take power in this country. For what we're seeing is a steady normalisation of extremists by the Conservative and Labour Parties, BBC, Telegraph, Mail and others. A shift once considered unthinkable beings to look acceptable, even inevitable.🧵

I remember when a protester punched the co-leader of the Greens in the face.

Hana Maipi-Clarke had her home broken into by a political stalker.

I recall VFF protesting outside Clarke's parents' home while Jacinda was on holiday.

I dont remember hearing about National's concerns back then??
Calling people attack dogs is not at attempt to deescalate and maintain civility, it's a attempt to escalate to distract from a failing economy. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

One broken window (which is not great) at the home of one govt politician and people have entirely lost their minds, as if nothing like this has ever happened before.

Do we not remember the violence and threats and abuse directed at left leaning politicians and public figures?

Spent the weekend at a art & activism space for people to connect, create, and share hope.

After feeling stuck for a while, being surrounded by creatives reminded me how vital communal creativity + collective hope are right now.

Submissions close tomorrow on the little-reported Summary Offences Amendment Bill - reading this (via Auckland Pride) it’s not hard to wonder what exactly they are planning to do to make it this easy to target and undermine rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and protest in Aotearoa 🫠

this country is so funny: a series of welfare subsidies that end up in the hands of landlords and private childcare providers; a chronically unaffordable housing market; a publicly-owned electricity generation and retail racket; oligopolies in supermarket and telecommunication sectors lol

Make no mistake, this govt knows full well what it is doing.
It has 1 core objective, & it is executing its plan to single-mindedly reach that core objective - to dismember the public sector!
Demonise, denigrate, discredit, damage, downsize, dismantle, & destroy the public sector, & so,

So you mean to tell me that the sane way forward is to go big into solar and wind for primary electricity supply, and treat hydro as battery storage for generation lulls, and the govt has instead decided to chuck more cash at incumbents and resurrect Solid Energy for gas imports

It may not surprise you to learn that David Seymour is completely wrong on this point. When councils create Māori wards, the existing councillors are voting to REDUCE the number of council seats (most of them) can contest ... they actually are voting against their own self-interest.

Green Light Rail
You missed out on this Auckland....
I’m riding the 10 tram, which connects Central to the airport, in Zürich.

For much of its route, it runs along a green corridor. Check it out, there’s even grass *between* the rails…

🚨BREAKING

40 years ago Margaret Thatcher abolished rent controls in Scotland.

The Scottish Parliament just passed a Bill introduced by the Scottish Greens, which will allow them once more!

This will keep rents affordable and offer safety and stability to renters. 🙌
