What happens to the brain’s body map when a body-part is removed?

Scanning patients before and up to 5 yrs after arm amputation, we discovered the brain’s body map is strikingly preserved despite amputation

We fly folks had a good run while it lasted. This is such awful news
I just got the notice that all the FlyBase people at Harvard, including me, will be laid off on October 12. I'm devastated.

Flies are not considered to be animals according to NIH guidelines. Shhhhh.
I’m all for more NAMS, but it has its limits. There are no LLMs or organs-on-a-chip that can model viral pathogenesis, vaccine efficacy, or candidate drugs. We only use animals when there is no other choice.

This will only stop more lifesaving research.

The "Big Beautiful Bill" isn’t the federal budget—it’s a reconciliation bill focused on tax cuts. The real FY26 funding decisions for NIH, NSF, and more are happening now in Congress.

@warnock.senate.gov -I absolutely agree cuts to NIH are devastating for patients fighting life-threatening diseases like cancer. We must fight the Trump administration’s cuts to save lives and ensure Americans get the care they deserve.
Cuts to NIH mean Georgians living with Stage IV cancer, like Richard Schlueter, can’t get the care they desperately need.

Unconscionable.

BOTTOM LINE: Proposed NIH cuts are estimated to result in ~50b in economic losses and over 200k job losses.

I personally know 5 early career and trainee level academic scientists who have changed jobs/ career paths in the last month. They did not see a sustainable future with ongoing cuts and attacks.
The scale of decimation of the pipeline that the scientific workforce in U.S. faces is staggering.

I asked Secretary McMahon if she had done ANY analysis about how the Department of Education would be able to perform its basic obligations under the law before firing HALF of its staff.

NO analysis was done. None.
