Feminist Dem voter in the US South with a sweet partner and funny little dog.

Political science prof at a small university, but it won’t take long to realize the views in my posts are my own.
My partner is a big Detroit Lions fan and has a student whose brother plays for the team! After a recent win due to the brother’s efforts, the student shrugged and said he lost money on the parlay. My long-suffering fan was disturbed that gambling is destroying the community that sports creates.
The Athletic polled hundreds of players from across the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL about their opinions surrounding how sports betting impacts players — the responses were haunting.

Weird that the Times never mentions the emails between their staff and Epstein.

This clip is the perfect encapsulation because it not only shows the failed up fool, it also shows the uselessness of the counterpoint that dogs don’t play football and they don’t wear costumes at dog shows while the spectacle continues.

Much prefer the comedy version here.
Fred Willard talking about a dog show in Best of Show (2000) is Donald Trump or any of his surrogates talking about any subject of public importance in 2025. (Autism and Tylenol, war ravaged Portland, tariffs, Trump’s Nobel Prize, etc etc)

Happy #BannedBooksWeek. If you love libraries and hate censorship, I'd encourage you to do more than just read a banned book this week. Here are a few ideas:
1. Get involved in your local public library board
2. Join or start a friends group
3. Organize a people's assembly for your public library

On another note, none of my students knew about Calvin and Hobbes (beyond seeing images of Calvin on bumper stickers) so I had to start there before I got to Calvinball.

Updating my AI policy for this semester and am including the link to this article.

So the "expert" thinks education should just be entering prompts into our LLM.

That's gonna be a no for me, dawg. Holy shit.

The Republican candiate for Senate in NC has never run for public office in the state, but he did rig an election to become GOP Chair.

Go Cooper!

Cooper is nothing like Sinema or Manchin. Good heavens.
I do too, but I also remember Sinema and Manchin blocking any real progress when the Democrats had the majority. I would rather not go through that again.

Just spent a few weeks in Spain, visiting sites of massacres from the Civil War. One night, we were talking w friends, and they asked about Trump. I cried as I told them about the disappearances, the ending of civil liberties, a social safety net, and institutional independence.

It’s all here now.

The All-Star game has live audio of the pitcher and catcher and they are interacting with the booth! Immediately after a pithy exchange the National League scored 2 runs!

Focus on the game! Seems weird for these important players to be talking to them live.

The weirdest thing. I cut open this spaghetti squash and the seeds had sprouted! I’ve never seen anything like it.

When I was young, there was a mall in the nearby city that seemed magical. In addition to every store and food court option, it had an ice rink (in the South!), movie theater, arcade. It was intergenerational and integrated. It became unsafe and closed.

I miss Twitter as a marketplace of ideas.
