Hiya! I'm Holden, generalist gamedev and cofounder at @turbobuttoninc.bsky.social where I make silly VR games like Floor Plan. Before that, I worked on AAA stuff, motion control stuff, and weird game jam stuff. I play lots of RPGs and have a dog named Bucket who wishes I would play with him instead.

they believe in nothing, they love nothing but their own power, and they have no moves that don't involve spamming the hate button
time and time again, MAGA Republicans are more excited to target and root against American athletes who have spoken out against them (or, in this case, merely expressed ambivalence) than they actually are to celebrate winning American athletes
What Hess actually said:

“Just because I’m wearing the flag doesn’t mean I represent everything that’s going on in the US.”

one thing I know from making comedy games is that dumb jokes are always funnier and more memorable when it's obvious someone spent a lot of time and effort to be that dumb

this is also why I am not particularly concerned about how fast computers can be dumb
“If I can generate a book in a day, and you need six months to write a book, who’s going to win the race?” God this is bleak

The new Katamari is quite good. It's all about helping people (by rolling them up into stars)

In terms of open worlds, the side quests in the Yakuza games are some of the best out there, especially Like A Dragon and Infinite Wealth.

[01] The Roottress are Dead (PC, 2025)
A beautifully crafted family drama investigation game. Easy rec if you like falling into Wikipedia rabbit holes. There were a few logic leaps that I didn't get towards the end, but there were so many great "aha" moments along the way that it didn't matter.
The Roottrees are Dead on Steam
A genealogical mystery straight out of 1998. Scour the early Internet for clues, uncover hidden connections, and piece together the family tree behind the secretive Roottree Corporation.

🧵 Games I Finished in 2026 🧵

I play lots of games for research and for fun every year, but only roll credits on 1 or 2 games a month. If I finish something it usually means it stood out to me or I really enjoyed it. So here's a thread to share those throughout the year...

"Our standing rule is: If one of us brings up using GenAI in any of our work, then it's safe to assume we've been assimilated by The Thing and should be burned alive by Kurt Russell," said a game design consultant in the US.
Over 50% of game developers now think generative AI is bad for the industry, a dramatic increase from just 2 years ago: 'I'd rather quit the industry than use generative AI'
The latest GDC survey also found that managers are more likely to use generative AI than their employees.

Breaks my heart to share this, but today is my last day at The Verge and I am looking for work! I'd really like to stay in video games, preferably in some kind of journalistic capacity but I can do PR/Marketing and maybe even a lil Narrative Design. Please get in touch!
